Transmission fluid
I am getting ready to change the transmission fluid in my 95 max and was wondering if any one knows the capacity that I should put back in. It is an auto tranny, and I know about using type DEXRON 2, I just don,t know how much. I geuss I could ask nissan, but I would rather ask you guys
If you really want to change all the tranny fluid>
You could take it to a Jiffy Lube and get the T-TECH Transmission Fluid Exchange. This would change all 10 liters in the tranny. I had this done but I brought my own fluid (Redline D4). IF you do bring your own fluid you'll need to bring 11 liters. The extra liter is used to help flush the tranny.
the flush and fill
I got a question for you guys--here. okay, the transmission holds 10 quarts right? when you do a drain and refill, you only need to replace 3.75 quarts as SYNKI said--so technically is that a clean transmission drain and refilled?
I thought there was some way they could drain all 10 quarts and refill it?
or is that my wishful thinking.
by the way, what is the difference between the drain and refill versus transmission flush? what are they flushing it with?
just curious
thanks

Re: the flush and fill
You will need to go to a shop that has a flushing machine. ie. Valvoine Instant oil change or Jiffy lube. When you do a drain and fill, you only change the fluid in the pan ~4 quarts. There are 7 more quarts inside the rest of the tranny and torque convertor. With flushing, they will hook your car up to the machine and run your car. Your car will pump out the old oil into the machine and suck new oil from the machine. Check here for more info. http://www.vioc.com/services_trans.htm

Vavloline place
1max2nv--
so the valvoline place to do a transmission flush, drain and refill is good? I was just wondering---what type of transmission fluid do they put in there? Is it compatible with what we have or what the dealer uses? it is pretty cheap...I just called a place by my place here in NY and they are only charging 23.99 for the entire service.
Sheesh...a month ago I took the car to a Nissan dealer to have the transmission drain and refill and they charged me 56 bucks...and I am assuming that is the replacement of only the 4 quarts in the pan...
and they didn't do anything to the 7 other quarts in the system...darn, I got ripped off.

Re: Vavloline place
I got my tranny flush there. They probably got the price wrong. It should be around $60. I have no idea what tranny fluid they use. I brought my own Redline D4 ATF to them. If you are going to do it, go buy some Mobil 1 ATF from your local parts store.

Hey there Max--
I called up three places and all of them here in NY charge 23.99 and they said the reason is because there is a drain plug for it--and specifically what they do is drain, flush about a quart of it through and then refill it with valvoline dex 3--which I believe is the same type of transmission fluid everyone else uses right?
I was wondering--this is the same type of service you got? and you are suggesting the Mobil ATF instead of the in-house valvoline stuff?
thanks for the info--

With the drain and fill, you dont get all the fluid out. I work at Jiffy Lube p/t when ot at school or doing audio installations, but that isnt the point. Jiffy Lube has a T-Tech machine that taps into your trans cooler lines and sucks all the old fluid out while replacing it with new fluid. It is 10 liters not quarts sorry. For the 23.99 they are chargin is for a drain and fill, not a full trans service. Go with the full thing sfrom liek a Jiffy Lube or stated a Valvoline store.
So Guys.
would you know what is it that they call at the Nissan Dealership a drain and refill? that is the latter right-- the drain the oil in the pan and leave the rest in the system? so basically my $65 drain and refill is pretty much useless because sooner or later I will need to get all the fluids out and then flush and then refill.
btw, does anyone know if the transmission fluid from these places are alright? ie...the jiffy lube stuff and valvoline?
any comments would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
