ethanol and toluene in maxima
ethanol and toluene in maxima
In Mississippi, waiting an hour for gas is still a reality (I'm hopeful this will change in the next few days). I'm looking for a way to avoid this mess.
1. Can I put in a couple gallons of toluene? and where to buy? (I know its a bit more $, but worth it to avoid the line for a few days)
2. Where to buy pure ethanol to spike my tank with? - I would guess 10-20% would be ok, but I'm not sure.
Any comments on this?

I buy Husky gasoline in British Columbia that is 10% ethanol blend 90 octane. The car runs perfectly on it. I don't know about buying it and dumping it in the gas tank, however. I don't know much about toluene. Join bobistheoilguy.com and run a search on "toluene" and "ethanol". Easy to use and free.
You might be able to add one gallon of Toulene to your full tank but more than that is gonna do more harm than good. You'd be better off giving some gas cans to somebody already in line.
i heard if u put water in your gas it makes ur car run super quiet. and NO do not mix toluene in your gas like the man said maybe one gallon to like say 3/4 of a tank but i wouldnt do ne more than that. isnt it like 12 bux a gallon for that stuff anyway?

Ethanol people is a real solution! Well, maybe a not the whole solution, but a part of it. Most cars can run up to E10, but my research points toward E14 being the limit before fuel system mods must be made to keep the system from being eaten by the ethanol. You can make your own still and produce 190 proof. You can even make you own reflux still and get a permit as a small fuel producer. You can get a small tax credit for every gallon made if you file for the right stuff. To most people, I am not sure if it would be worth doing unless you had a FFV or wanted to go from 87 to 91 by putting in 10% ethanol in the tank (again, my research points to that octane increase). You have to remember the fuel for the still and the cost of the corn (and your time and where you are going to store/do all this)
You must remember that since ethanol contains less energy per unit than gas, your mileage would be less if you ran pure ethanol compared to gas. But, with E10 I don't think you would have much problem.
I am going to build a still and try to make a still and if it works out with my L28ET engine then I will see if I want to apply for the ATF permits and stuff.
The best page with free still designs is: www.moonshine-still.com
This page is interesting for some of the info he gives on permits and stuff. I don't plan to buy the still design as you can get a computer designed one from the other site I listed first.

I was thinking that if more start doing this ethanol still stuff then the feds would come down on it and stop people, but I don't think most people will want to make a still and do all the stuff to make ethanol. Still you can always to it without the permits and just don't tell anyone.
