My mom's heater fan in her 1997 Maxima really started to sound noisy and vibrate the whole car. I was pretty sure that something was stuck in it and setting it off balance. Well I took it apart and found some of our dog's dog food in it!!! Man I thought that was weird. There was also insulation from inside the engine compartment. It looked like a mouse or something somehow got in their and tried to make a mess. I really can't figure out how in the hell the mouse could get in there. There are no holes in the inlet below the windshield. Oh, well cleaned it up and put it back together and it seems to run fine. Sure wish I could figure out where the little mouse or whatever is getting into the heater. Not good. Anybody else have a problem similar to this?

my friends mom had a 2000 Odyssey, and it got in and she broke down on the freeway, and had it taken to the shop.. 2 days later got a phone call sayin mouse ate through 500 dollars worth or wires.. explains why her lights, a/c, and almost ne other appliance wasnt workin well for those 2 weeks.. plus the car was dangerous..

Damn Little Critters

Ran into the same problem with a 00 Frontier. Guy lives out in the country. Turn the fan on and you hear the fan blade out of balance and hitting something. Took the blower motor cover apart and sure enough there was dry grass and other unmentionable stuff inside the blower motor box. The little critter must have gotten in through the vent duct or through the evap. drain hole.

Solution: You may want to use a mesh screen on the vent duct
enterance.

Re: Damn Little Critters

Well, there seems to be some mesh screen already installed in the vent duct area on the cowl. Don't really see how the little guy got in there. We put some mouse traps under the hood last night and sure enough we caught one! Hopefully that was the only one! I wonder how long he's been camping out ing the car. Don't ever seem to find any mouse turds around so hopefully not long. Man I thought mice were only a problem in old cars! Maybe nissan needs to make their rigs mouse proof!! Kind of hard to do though.

Yeah, actually getting a rodent while the car is being transported from the factory points to the dealers is pretty common. I was working at a Chrysler dealership for awhile, and no matter where the cars were being shipping from (California, Michigan, Mexico) we would always find a rodent either in the dash of one in a few cars or even under the hood in a fender someplace. Sometimes alive too... Most of the time, customers would buy the fresh new car, only to return in a couple of months to complain of a smell. I thought it was only crappy Chrysler and Dodge cars (in my opinion, I thought they were doing something wrong to get those rodents). But after 3 years of working there, I would hear all sorts of stories of things like that being common all over the place... Mercedes ships their cars in wooden crates... Imagine opening the door to a S-Class and finding that a couple of rats made their way from Germany to your dealer's prepping center... Pretty common occurance for any company... Some of those cars are travelling cross-country for almost 2 months... You can only expect a few things to be picked up, and/or damage the cars.

Actually, before I was working there; They were unloading the trucks only to find a man sleeping in one of the vans... Another time, they were unloading the truck at inspection points from the corporate offices and they discovered that a spy-personnel from a *major* car audio company got in to one of the new vans (for their 400 watt, Infinity self tuning system), and stripped the car of all the interior panels, took pictures of his process and removed every bit of wire harness and audio equipment processors in the car. He did that all in 3 weeks of transportation time without really getting out of the van during his process. Needless to say, I know this story since the guy got caught, the company got in bigtime trouble and they paid up bigtime for the damages and their attempted corporate cheating... Amazing what some companies can do with a little bit of money. Even more amazing is what a person will do for that money, and live in a van heading across the country...

Mice are pretty collapsable

Apparently you go round your house (and, presumably your car) and see of there are any holes big enough to push a pencil through. If it'll fit, a mouse will. Call an exterminator. (Or save $$$ by leaving the pencil where it is and going off and getting a new one...)

Glad you brought back a 10 year old thread.... A good search would have given the answer you seek.

To answer your question, yes you access it from inside the car. Remove glove box, unbolt 3 screws on blower motor, and blower motor will drop down. Then clean and re-install.
