Those are jammers. Why do you need 2?

 

The SR7 is a Radar and the ZX3 is a jammer!
Hence why i have two

 

I have mine on top of my review mirror behind the tint band and with the rest of the windows tinted, you can't see it from the outside. But, I suppose a cop could see you pulling it down if he was close enough behind you.

 

I see, both go together. So far I haven't come across laser yet in So Cal. Only pick up guidance laser around airports.

 

Go with the 8500! It has done me right for 3 years now. It is a little sensitive, but it keeps you alert!

does anyone know how to hard wire 8500X50 in 01 maxima? and does anyone know if heat in summer time can damage the RD while its mounted on ur windshield?

 

I tapped into the sunroof (or dome light, if no sunroof) power with an in-line fuse and grounded to the chassis.

Don't know about long term w/ sun & heat, my car is usually in the garage or parking structure.

 

My friend had both Valentine 1 and Passport radar detections in his car on a long highway cruise, and the Valentine 1 outperformed the Passport on all levels.

 

Valentine, Escort 8500 X50, Bel STi, or Bel Rx-65 are the only ones worth looking at

 

I like my RX65 over my friends V1...

 

i have used v1.7 and 1.8 V1's..passport 4600 and 8500, and the BelProRX65 is my current. Id have to say it has pretty much been pretty awesome. If your going to buy one, im gonna say go with the bel.

My 8500 X50 has saved me enough times that I wouldn't risk switching. Although I do hear consistently that V1 is good too.

 

I think people know this already but Bel and Escort are the same company. Internally, the 8500 X50, RX65, and V995 are all very similar and should perform around the same. From reviews that I've read, they all should false less and detect Ka bands (most frequently used around here) better than the Valentine 1. That said, I love my Bel RX65. It's never let me down.

 

The Escort 8500 has been great. I had the last one for over 5 years in my 2000 SE and jsut bought the new 8500 in blue. It was $30 dollars more but worth it. Both radars have saved my a** several times . You will not be dissapointed with this one.

 

I have a Bell 995 and an Escort 8500.

The Escort is a flaming piece of crap.

My X50 works great, you probably got a bad one/refurbished. Send it to Escort and tell them to update

 

X50 = less false alarm + automute FTW!
V1 = arrows FTW!

Up to you they're both good radars, I bought the V1 a year after my X50 got jacked :*(

 

Arrows are the most overrated thing on earth. My buddies V1 1.8 is extremely slow with the arrows, a good 2 seconds late.

 

V1 gets a vote from me. My bro with a bimmer has one and has saved him a lot of money. I havent found it to be too sensitive but then again I dont ride in it everyday.

 

I have used both and found the V1 to be better, IMO the arrows are really useful, those who say there overrated have oviously never had one for very long. Run the V1 you wont be disapointed!

 

I used it for a week. When I hear it I slow down, I could care less where the cop is comming from.

 

any 5th-5.5 gen guys have a sleek mounting setup? im looking to conceal the unit but still perform. i think i remember seeing a post a few months back of a guy who mounted his passport 8500 in the flip down sunglasses holder.btw, it is an x50 im trying to mount

 

I just got a V1 for Christmas and it already saved me twice on my drive from Pittsburgh to Chicago. I plan on getting it hard-wired and neatly mounted when I get a chance.

 

X50 has worked great for me. That's all that matters!

 

The x50 has saved me quite a few tickets and if i'm not mistaken, the zr3 laser jammer hooks into the x50.

 

For the first time since I picked up the Escort passport 8500 x50 in June, I got pulled over yesterday. Now I should preface this with the fact that I am a rather spirited driver, and the x50 has saved me many times over. I do not, however, endorse speeding in traffic. I only speed when the roads are clear and I know them well enough to anticipate every turn, angle, and possibility.

Now onto the story. I was driving westbound on rt. 44 in Avon, CT, down in the area where the speed limit is 35. Keep in mind, this is no country bumpkin back road, this is a main route, 4 lanes (2 in each direction), straight and wide. Traffic normally tavels 50-55 through here easily and consistently. I was in the left lane pacing a minivan in the right, who was going rather fast for a minivan. I wasn't gaining any ground on it and I didn't really care when I looked at my speedometer and I was surprised to see a minivan doing almost 60 mph with me. As I began contemplating slowing down and getting over to the right lane, an ear-piercing high pitched bell rang throughout my car. That's right folks, you guessed it... the ole escort was letting me know that I was getting tagged with a laser. I quickly pressed the brake and shifted into third as is my normal reaction when the detector goes off... but no dice. I saw the cop on a street perpendicular to the road, and I as I passed him he pulled up to turn out. I was toast and I knew it. I got over to the right lane and sure enough, 20 seconds later, he was up on me.

Moral of the story, these detectors don't do squat for lasers. Everything else is good, but if you live in an area where lasers are used, don't bother.

Oh yeah, one more thing, I never complain about getting a ticket, that's not what this is about. I definitely deserved it, I basically write it off as the cost of enjoying my driving experience. My best to all of ya.

 

You can't blame a radar detector about Lasers. Nothing can predect a laser, you can only get a laser jammer.

 

I didn't mean to confuse this, I don't "blame" the detector for not picking up the laser. It's the first time I've been hit with a laser while I was speeding. The advertisement for X50 does include "radar/laser detector", I'm simply saying that even though it does detect laser, it doesn't matter. When it tells you about the laser, you're cooked. This is precisely what I expected. Didn't mean the title to mislead.

 

Yes, the X50 and V1 (and Rx65 and STi for that matter) are all semi close on radar, and all acceptable performers, but on laser the V1 kills, its still not guranteed but its much better than the others, if you cant afford a jammer the V1 is king if laser is used in your area

i just bought a bel sti driver, awesome detector, i paid the higher price at a store. 449 dollars, but thats because i dont like to buy things off of the internet all the time. i was wondering if anybody else has looked into infra red blocking clear coat or paint. im looking for something similar to laser veil that i can have a body shop spray on the whole car, even if it means painting the whole car black first. (its champagne right now). or if maybe dupont has a clear ir blocking film for the headlights instead of the messy veil.

there are many things they dont do correctly on mythbusters. laser veil is proven to work and all it is is a sort of infrared absorbing paint. i am looking for something like laser veil i can use on the entire car. google "guys of lidar" they have some tests on things like this so i dont try to explain something i havent actually done myself, they have.
