compression check...

newb questions never done before, what do i need and what should i read, i know i need to pull the packs n plugs and crank bout 3 times at WOT, ne more tips or tricks?

If the engine will run, it will give you better compression readings if you warm it up first. Then pull ALL of the coilpacks and sparkplugs. Try to crank the engine on each cylinder the same amount of time, like 2-3 seconds, with the throttle wide open.
You could also pull the fuel pump fuse while you are doing the test, just to be safe.

before you do the test remove your fuel pump fuse while the car is running unitl it shuts off. crank it a few times to make sure it wont start then proceed to check ea cylinder. the reason for this is so the car wont start while your testing it. i would let them ea cycle about three cranks before checking the pressure. does anybody know the correct range of compression he should be looking for EX. 190 compression.

and what exactly do i need to check the compression i.e the correct name of the tool?

Your local parts store sells the tool(Pep boys). It says on the package "Compression Check thingy"

I don't think the numbers matter as much as the difference between cylinders so checking it on a cold motor is fine as long as the numbers aren't too low.
