wheel making noise - need some help

My front passenger wheel makes a click/clunk noise in short incriments depending on speed. So when making a left turn or steering at all in the left direction it makes the clunk, clunk, cluck noise. It only makes the noise while giving accelerating (not hard), so if I let off the noise goes away.

I thought it could be the strut (D2 coilovers) but if letting off the gas makes it go away, it cant be that. It could also be the wheel bearing but the wheel does not have any play. Axles boots seem to be fine also. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? I know asking help on a problem based on a noise is stupid and difficult to determine so I will try to make a video by tomarrow night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

98 Maxima-everything has 110k miles except motor which has 9k
DE-K motor, 5spd trans, D2 Coilovers

not necessarily. they wear the most on the points of contact where you're accelerating. when you're coasting or decelerating, there isn't that much force on them from the engine, so there isn't a whole lot of wear. Thus, most of the time when you hear noise, it's going to be when you're accelerating.

me and a few other maximas around here have the same exact symptoms. On one 4th gen we've changed:

1. wheel bearings
2. ball joint
3. axles

And it still makes that noise (only turning left and only while accelerating). The only thing left is the tie rod, which I was planning to disconnect from the front sway bar and see if the noise is still there.

Axle is already on the way from Raxles and it should be here monday. Im hoping thats the problem.

I have already checked play in the wheel so its not the wheel bearing. Maybe it could be the tie rod... Larrio, is the noise coming from the right wheel when turning left?

yes, right wheel when turning left. Only when i'm on the throttle, once I let off it goes away.

unfortunately for me axles are not as replaceable.

I'm partly offering help because I know my passenger side CV boot is shot and soon enough the joint will be too, so if helping you helps me have an easier time when I have to replace mine, that's fine with me.
Tell me if it only really takes an hour, last job I did was a rear valve gasket replacement, and then Nissan screwed me and ordered the wrong valve gasket.
Just let me know.

Dude, I would be VERY careful, chicken wing sauce, which is mostly vinegar and hot pepper, in the presence of engine oil and brake fluid can react and form a suspension this is essentially low grade PVC, which is poly vinyl chloride. The issue with poly vinyl chloride is that when heated to a certain point it gives off acetylene gas (the stuff they use for blowtorches), so clean that **** off!!
After you clean the stuff off wax your engine cover, some of the boys in the DC forum are teh masters of waxing teh engine cover.

I replaced the axle with a Raxle this Saturday and it fixed the noise problem. The boot was not ripped or anything so maybe it was from the angle the axle was at when lowered on the D2s or just because they were old.

Didnt take long at all, I think it was under an hour. The only thing that took time was draining the gear oil and putting it back in. I only did the passenger side, the driver side should take less time since its shorter and there is no bracket. Let me know when you plan to do yours.
