on my way to chicago this past weekend...after I had installed my cattman SS y-pipe and RT cat (on friday). was cruising along I65 towards chicago at about 78 mph when I looked up and saw this silver thing come up really quick behind me...and passed me on my right.
anyways, I thought....geez Solara supercharged (cos an accord coupe looks pretty much like a solara). so I nail it just as he passes me, thankfully there was slow traffic up ahead so he had to slow down.
once the road opened up, I more or less nailed it just as he nailed his...he could not pull on me (unlike the accord v6 ad where the accord pulls on the semi =) ). knew I had lots left when we flew up to speeds of about 100 - 110 mph. wanted to see if I could pass him, but there was traffic on the right....(pardon my ***-headed driving here)
anyways, we both slowed down and I was more or less riding his *** till traffic opened up and we had open road. more or less flew past him, let go of full throttle and waited for him to get about even with me before nailing it again up to about 115mph, he left on the next exit...(with his tail between his legs =) ) so much for Vtec power.

also, wonder how I'd do against accord V6 sedans and the new jetta VR6? the y-pipe is awesome...now I'm addicted to even more power...thinking of getting the b-pipe...any thoughts anyone?

thanks for reading and all opinions and advice!

best regards

If your car is a auto, it'll be a toss up between a v6 accord and a vr6 jetta (auto, not stick). If your Maxima is stick then you should have no trouble at all. I've never had problems with the V6 accords but some trouble against the VR6 in auto form.

autobox...yeap...mine!

wonder if it'd make any diff in an auto max with say Don's VB recalibration mod?

sigh, oh well, perhaps I'd give me friend a call to race his jetta?! wanna see how I stack up!

anyway, heard from this 1.8T audi owner who was trash talking me and my friend's integra GSR. we both wanna go race him! heard he's supposedly got a chip...but then again...some ppl say he does not...either way wonder if I can smoke him big time? chip ... and not turbo upgrade!

not trying to flame you but really, for one thing, how do you know he was racing? how do you know he was WOT this whole time? Did he roll down his windows and say I am going to floor it all the way? That's the problem with these highway "races". How do you actually know that he was racing? I know many times, when someone tailgates me, I'll get one it a little, but by no means am I racing him.. I am just trying to get him off of my ***.

Anyways...

I hear you...I wonder too...but if I was going almost full throttle and he looke like he was trying really hard (at least I think and the 2 other passengers in my car think too!)...and trying to pass me on the right...then...guess its granted...but you do have a point there! sigh...my auto sucks!

I mean, why didn't he just fly by me if (he was playing with me?...cos I would)
nothing against hondas here...just that it made my early morning commute to Chicago that much more fun =)

IMHO, the aftermarket B-pipe is not really a great investment of $. The stock B-pipe is relatively straight through, with the exception of the infamous "crimp", just aft of the cat. If you take the car to any reputable muffler shop, they can remove the crimp and replace it with a straight through section of 2.5 inch pipe for about $25 bucks. Since you're in Illinois, make sure they do a good job of corosion proofing the welds and, viola, you've effectively got a Courtesy B-pipe for 1/6th the investment.

you really think the Jetta VR6 is quick? huh. i've never had a problem..

what would be interesting would be racing a 1.8T that's chipped 5spd.. now THAT would be cool..

the only person i know with a chipped 1.8T is SkiMax, but i think he sold it...

but it seems everytime my that friend...(used to own an corrado VR6 then sold for a 1.8T audi A4)...lost to me in a drag race...he'd cite its cos he miss shifted...(no short shift in any of his cars)...!
oh well, so much of trash talking!

the 1.8T chipped is SOOO much faster than the stock VR6.

the neuspeed chip alone adds close to 30-40 hp..
i know. i didn't believe it, but it's all about reprogramming BOOST!
heheh..

i'll be chipping my GF's Jetta soon, (and they're cheap! $200) she's got a new 1.8T. hehehe. but it's an auto. *doh*

don't get me wrong, I am not saying that he could have flew by you.. I mean if it's a late model Accord, it's got 200hp... 3 liter as well... I mean it'll be close. When people race cars that are closely matched, "flying by" each other would be pretty difficult.

Ok...all v6 accords are auto(new gen ones), they only produce 200 hp and they are SOHC...And you spelled VTEC wrong(all caps). VTEC is a Type R or Civic si...They are DOHC engines and they kick ***...so please don't say, so much for VTEC power, if you have never experienced it. I have to check on it but i am not even sure if the Accord engine is VTEC at all...Later.

IIRC, the top end on the J30A/J32A is better than it is on the VQ30DE (gen4), less power fall-off due to the Honduh VTEC. Nothing wrong with it being SOHC though! Camshafts are cheaper, think of it that way!

Then again, if you're modded you had better spank an Accord V6.

Stock Acura 3.2TL dyno. Loses less than 25lb-ft of torque at the top end, unlike the VQ30DE.

I thought NA cars like Max can gain 30hp from a chip, so 30-40 on boosted car ain't biggie : )
Unless... ; )
