VQ35DE swapped Sentra pics/details..

So, I'm just about done with this swap... Engine/tranny is in, wiring harness from a 02 Altima will be here Monday. I managed to find a ECU,NATS module, and key from the same car.. so I won't have to reprogram with the Consult. Wiring this up in a Spec V is pretty straight forward. The QR25DE is drive by wire, using the same harness/pedal. We are using a 2004 Max motor, and Spec V 6spd, with a VQ35 6spd bellhousing swapped on. The trans mount bolted up.. the rear QR mount fits in the VQ bracket with a little trimming. I had to redrill the holes in the VQ bracket to line up with the QR mount.. No big deal. The front mount, and side mount, I made adaptors to go between the QR mounts, and VQ brackets. I used 1/4" plate steel and spacers.. all MIG welded.. I also had to make a bracket for the Spec V passenger axle to bolt to the block. The Spec V axles are the same diameter and spline as the VQ.. but, the splines on the hubs are different.. so, I couldn't use the Maxima axle. But, it wasn't terribly hard.. just time consuming to get it lined up perfectly. The QR uses a dead-head fuel system, set at 51psi of pressure.. same as the VQ. It shares the same fuel pump as well... The QR A/C compressor bolts to the block, but you have to drill the holes in the compressor to accept 14mm bolts.. the QR uses 12mm bolts. The two bottom holes line up, as well as the top right side.. but, it's about 1/4" too high.. so, you have to drill the hole bigger and use a washer to get a good clamp on it. The stock fans ALMOST fit... However, we opted for slim fans. The Maxima radiator fits.. no fuss.. same size as the QR.

Here's a few pics..

How much more additional weight is added to the front suspension with that swap?
And how do you correct that?

From the QR25 to the VQ35 is a 47lbs weight gain.

Too bad the sentra got porkier along the way, it's now at ~2750lbs from what i recall. Imagine if it was the weight of a Civic HB with that engine

So how many different people are doing this swap while all posting pictures of the SAME car in each thread? And posting conflicting information about this exact same car.

I love seeing this the spec v in my mind was the way the 4th gen should have been .ive seen 70 + in the slalom STOCK .
Lighter start weight great handling and it seems like a full swap is easier than putting it in a 4th gen.

mods please keep this type of stuff in the forums because one its maxima related and also it may spur swap kits and better ideas with sharing ideas.

If you turbo the QR, you gain that weight when you bolt on a turbo manifold, turbo, FMIC, piping, etc

And who in here is talking trash? A simple question has been asked which was repeated by someone else in the other thread.

That was my original intent as well ... but the QR has so many weaknesses its not even funny. Boosted QR's are dropping like flies because of things breaking. Altho there are some running strong .... there are a few problems u will eventually run into

I don't understand what's so confusing about this swap, SR20DEN?.. What are you confused about? It's a VQ35 swapped into a Spec V.. Nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks for the props... I figured that the Maxima guys would love to see this.. which is why I posted it here. I forgot that I had posted it already.. I am human, and I do make mistakes. If I could have used the search function, I would have been able to find my thread.. I just couldn't remember if I did or not.

I have built some sick cars.. granted, most people don't know me, or my business. I have lost the lease to my shop.. After hurricane Katrina, my landlord decided that he wanted double the money for his building.. since surviving property is worth gold right now. I have been with him for 2 1/2 years.. I guess loyalty means nothing to people these days. So, yes, I am working out of my 2 car garage.. pretty humbling.. going from a 4K square ft shop, to a 2 car garage and a spare room. But, I get my work done regardless.

A turbo QR is fun.. but, reliability in stock form is questionable. This is a more reliable setup, obviously. Believe it or not, it wouldn't cost THAT much to do if you sourced a cheap motor. The QR trans is used, with a VQ bellhousing.. 3 mount adaptors have to be made (2 engine mounts, 1 axle mount). A 2002 Altima 3.5 5spd harness, ECU, and NATS module, with matching key.. and you're done. It's not THAT hard... I consider building the destroked QR way harder than this. Anyone with any wrenching ability should be able to do this.

I just wanted one simple question answered, which got answered in the other thread. And I wasn't the only person who brought up the issue.

Very impressive job. I'm going to sticky this one for a bit. May be a gray area since it doesnt involve a maxima, but i'm sure our members would like to see more about this.....

F*CK this NATS crap...

After wracking my brain for 2 days, elbow-deep in wiring.. I finally thought I had it all finished up. Guess what... no fire... So, I hook up a LED to the NATS output for the security light.. and it stays lit when the key is on..

When I checked the voltage on the other pins... I noticed that my 12v constant was dead.. So, I traced it back, and just my luck... the damn fuse was blown for the 12v power supply that I decided to use. So, I guess the NATS module went on lockdown because the 12 volts constant wasn't hooked up... OR, because I didn't have the LED security lamp hooked up? At any rate, I have to get the Consult from my buddy, and see if I can clear this thing out. Any tips on NATS from someone who's messed with it? And, can Technosquare, or anyone else program the NATS out of the ECU?

My plan would be to tow the car to the dealer and have them program the Sentra keys to the new ECU.

Or, use the valet key insert that you would use for the remote start on a new alarm. But you probably don't have matching keys for that ECU.

Other than that, TS can clone a ECU but if they can't program a Sentra CAN ECU they probbaly can't retrieve the NATS from it anyway.
