After replacing a faulty NATS module, and key.. and clearing it up with the Consult.. the VQ cranked right up! I have to finish up a few misc. things with the wiring.. and clear a few codes.. But, it started, and idles/revs just fine. I'll have videos of it in action this upcoming week..

Travis, congrats on the progress of the swap...mad props to you

but a quick question...in your honest opinion, do u believe the 250lbs difference will be apparent from a vq35 specv versus a vq35 4th gen max? mod for mod & stock for stock... I know weight becomes a big factor in drag racing..especially if you start shaving 250lbs of weight...but how big of a difference do u think we are looking at?

I think that on slicks, this car should go 13.00-13.20 at around 105mph. Weight plays a huge role.. Also, this car is partially gutted, so that will help as well. We'll find out on Wednesday at the drag strip!

You can get the weight of a 4th gen down to the 26xx range with full interior. Krismax's car weights something around that and I want to get mine down there too for next year.

How nice. I see someone in here got their feelings hurt enough by a simple question to give me a negative rep. rating. I just want you to know, whoever you are, that I find this amusing. Especially since you aren't even man enough to sign your name to it.

Wasn't me... I have no problem voicing my opinion.. I don't have a problem with you, even though you were rude to me at first.

according to cartest a stock 6spd 02 max should run 14.2s @ 97mph, now a 3000lb 02 max would run 13.9s @ 99mph, a 2750lb 02 max runs 13.6 @ 102mph. So basically the B15 chassic is good for 2-3 tenths quicker and 2-4mph depending on gearing.

That takes some serious nad to yank out a QR25 and put in a VQ35. I know this is an off topic question, but does the Vspec tranny have a better 3rd gear than the older SERs. That thing will grenade if shifted too hard, but fun no doubt. This swap would be fun in on of the older SERs.

The Spec V trans is the same as the 6spd Maxima.. So, it's pretty strong. No one has broken one yet.. 500+whp so far.. I'm about to put 600whp through one in a few weeks.. with a destroked QR25DE turbo motor. So, we'll see how it likes that..

Nice swap not only a 70 hp gain but also a gain in 66 lbs in torque which alot of peeps fail to consider especially those driving cars with an "H" on the hood like I used to. The B16's and B18's even the F20's put down nice hp for their displacement but the torque is norwhere to be found (this is also true with the Toyota 2ZZ-GE's). My Honda was an H23A1 Prelude so it had proportional torque like the KA24DE's, QR25DE's and Toyota 2AZ-FE's 2.4L (Scion tC and Camry 4cyl) and due to its larger displacement.
I still miss my Prelude but the 240SX is more fun to drive (RWD) and the tC is more pimp with Lexus-level interior and exterior styling on a sub-Honda budget.

A Sentra w/ 245hp and 246 lbs in torque BEFORE bolt-ons should be pretty fast. Imagine the power potential with bolt-ons alone. Keep up the good work.

Car has been up and running for many months, now.. I've finished up my VQ install kit for the Spec-V, and I'm performing swaps, in-house.

Sport Compact Car Magazine contacted me a few weeks ago, wanting to do a full feature on this swap. So, I'm in the process of building another car, which will be featured in SCC sometime this summer. This particular car will be fully-bolted and will have a NX Wet kit installed. On slicks, I plan for the car to run mid 11's on the 100hp jets, and mid 12's all motor. Considering that a bone stock VQ went 12.90, already, I don't see this as being a problem.

I can't imagine how many of those you'd sell if you made a kit for the 240SX...

Hi all , new here but not to the Sentra people . VQ in a V spec sounds like a nice conversion and it seems Nissan has helped out with bellhousings and gearboxes . In something light like an S13 it would be a nice package .

Cheers Adrian .

Thanks for the props... I figured that the Maxima guys would love to see this.. which is why I posted it here. I forgot that I had posted it already.. I am human, and I do make mistakes. If I could have used the search function, I would have been able to find my thread.. I just couldn't remember if I did or not.

I have built some sick cars.. granted, most people don't know me, or my business. I have lost the lease to my shop.. After hurricane Katrina, my landlord decided that he wanted double the money for his building.. since surviving property is worth gold right now. I have been with him for 2 1/2 years.. I guess loyalty means nothing to people these days. So, yes, I am working out of my 2 car garage.. pretty humbling.. going from a 4K square ft shop, to a 2 car garage and a spare room. But, I get my work done regardless.

A turbo QR is fun.. but, reliability in stock form is questionable. This is a more reliable setup, obviously. Believe it or not, it wouldn't cost THAT much to do if you sourced a cheap motor. The QR trans is used, with a VQ bellhousing.. 3 mount adaptors have to be made (2 engine mounts, 1 axle mount). A 2002 Altima 3.5 5spd harness, ECU, and NATS module, with matching key.. and you're done. It's not THAT hard... I consider building the destroked QR way harder than this. Anyone with any wrenching ability should be able to do this.

Travis

Listen, Travis. More power to you. If I lived near you, I'd give me all of my business.

Keep the work going!

How much do you charge for a swap like this? Not including parts of course.
