Alright...its time for me to make up my decision on S-techs w. illuminas. I live in TN and the roads here are pretty decent. I just want to know what you guys think of this setup and comfort wise....is it like sprints. Any input will be helpful. Thanks!

 

I have that setup. i have heard that they are more comfortable than sprints, but not still not comfortable like stock. you will definitely be sacrificing comfort when you switch to a lowered stance like that. the Illuminas will help, however.

a good combination none the less, but i have heard that H&R's are comfortable, i think.

i live in MN and the roads can be pretty bad after the winter with potholes and such, but i haven't had any problems (even though I installed last June...)

 

sorry for the newb ? but im looking at a drop in the spring and was wondering what the difference between the s-techs and the h-techs was...hight? comfort?

Go for it! You wont be disappointed.

 

H techs more comfort because the drop is only like 1.25", slight stance difference from stock. S techs are 2.2" drop. Very low drop, sacrfice comfort but car looks good.

On stock wheels it's not that bad. Lower the profile and you'll be on pothole patrol for good. I run on 35 series in the summer, but the look is more than worth it to me.

Hmm I had them on stock wheels too and I still think they rode like sh*t.

 

i live in TN...we have smooth roads. But on occasion we have some crappy roads. How does it handle bumps on the hwy or road? Does it buttom out alot, hit hard, or is it pretty decent. I came from GR-2's w/sprints on my 4th gen.And the ride was rough as hell. So may man concern is, will my ride me way better then my previous setup w/ tockio + s-techs.

 

I can't tell you whether it will ride better or not. I just know that it felt like it was riding on bumpstops constantly. Bottoming out...it seemed like it was already bottomed out, so bumpy roads were that much worse. Seriously, I found imperfections in roads that I thought were smooth with S-techs. There's a reason why they lasted all of a few months on my car.

 

I'm on stock sawblades with 60 series rubbers and yes, they definitely ride rougher than stock, but it feels tighter and stiffer in a good way. Not too much that it is uncomfortable.

It is pretty apparent that opinion differs a bit on these, but it is mainly due to personal preference. You should find someone with the same set-up and take their car for a drive/ride and see how you like it.

i agree, with anything but stock, be aware of every pothole, sewer cover, joint, lip, whatever. it DOES ride like sh*t. handles great tho, i wouldnt change it, not yet at least. in winter it is seeming to ride a little worse, being that its cold and it makes things worse. i cant comment on stock rubber yet tho.

 

i dont agree with the guys that say s-techs ride horrible.i actually like them and say that they ride ppreety good. yeah there is a difference between them and stock and htere is a difference between them and H&Rs as well which i had on my max before but not to the extent of them riding the way you guys say.

 

i have to see how much clearence i have on my driveway. If i drop it too low then i wont be able to come up.

 

thre is always a way to get up a driveway lo. i have a steep driveway also and i used some wood to make my own entrance.

 

lol..yea mine is pretty steep. I have about 2inches clearence from my stillen lip to my driveway when i pull up to it.

 

the ride is pretty harsh in Atlanta where the whole road is made of sequential potholes. I would take a progress/illumina setup over them anyday. Less drop (still like 1.8 front) and much better and more managable ride. But if you wanna go low they will do the job and they do it well

 

yeah i think im gonna lean more toward progress springs now. I dont want a harsh azz ride with s-techs. Especially since I travel alot. I think with progress I will have a better ride...but the drop will still be decent. Thanks!

 

Comfort and S-techs don't belong in the same sentance unless you are contrasting them. S-techs are really rough with or without Illuminas. I've had them on stock struts (horrible, yet I could still live with it). Then I changed to Illuminas and it's still rough. It did get noticably softer but it's really harsh if you're looking for comfort. SAVE FOR SOME COILOVERS!
