Gone but not Forgotten

I love this car and it is my favorite car of all time. What makes it head and shoulders above all the other cars I have owned is the 3.5L. This engine is just incredible, the difference between the 3.0 and the 3.5 is nothing short of amazing.

People have also put down the auto transmission and although I don't like the 5th Gen auto as well as the 4th Gen because of the slower shifts, after approx 400 1/4 mile runs over the last 1 1/2 years it hung in like a champ. Three sets of slicks a few trophies and a couple of prize money checks later it really hurt to let this car go, more than any other I have had.

My second most favorite car was my 70 Challenger 340 I bought new in Oct 1969. After a few mods this car was a real track burner with a best 1/4 mile of 14.3. A full second slower than my Maxima. The best part about having this car was my investment was minimal. It was a takeover lease that had 20 months left to expiry. So I got 2 full seasons of racing and today I got my full deposit back. This car was the fastest N/A 3.5 auto and I believe the only manual that was faster was Matt's (SR20DEN) 12 sec 6 spd.

Because it was a lease my mods were somewhat minimal, not like when you own the car. Basically it was intake and exhaust plus what weight reduction I could do with a lease. Next year will be different.

I just bought my wife a 95 GLE and she loves it. Leather, Bose, Sunroof etc etc.

Presently I am working on my new ride. This is just my old 95 GXE which my wife has been driving for the last 2 years after being reverted to bone stock while I played with the 2k2.

I have a 3.5L with less than 5k on it to swap into it. That along with a FEW mods I am working is going to put this car way down into 12 second territory. This is the latest pic its growing lighter as we speak.

This is just one small sample mod.

I'm sad to see the 5.5 gen go. I would never buy a leased car now (not that I ever planned to).

as if you didnt lighten up the 95 enough. so how much were the windows and how thick are they?

The windows, hmm 4x8 sheet of 1/8" tinted lexan approx $125. I am doing the rear doors and rear window only as per "super street all motor" rules.

Actually I was very surprised at the light weight of the rear window its only 15 lbs and the lexan is 7 so not as much a savings as I would have expected.

I'd rather have the 70 340ci Challenger (71 would be ideal but 70 > 72)

looking good Jim

sorry to see the 5.5 gen go, but its good to see you are staying in the same family, and with the same engine. a few of the vids i saw of you at the track coaxed me into getting the 5.5, showing me its potential, and then restoring my faith in it from time to time. good luck with the 4.5 gen!
