Possible, but I would not say the A4 Smoked >>>>

the ITR. Being smoked to me is like 5 or more car lengths, the A4 probably just beat the ITR by a car length or 2 which is equal to 1 or 2 tenths of a sec in the 1/4 mile, remember the general rule of thumb is in the 1/4 mile every car length is about 1 tenth of a sec. I believe that with a chip mod which increases the boost, exhaust and intake, the 1.8T will make around 225 HP, and if the A4 is a Quattro then it may have a pretty good advantage inthe start, but at the end of 1/4 mile the quattro advantage is none because it actually increases drag on the engine and saps more HP.

A kid i live with has the APR stage 1 chip. It bumps the a4 1.8T up to 200 hp. I still don't think it can hang with my car. But now he has an APR exhaust also. It would be close. That quattro just ruins everything.

Must have been wet out :)

Without a turbo upgrade the car is limited to around 190-200 HP with only a chip upgrade, unless there are other mods to the intake manifold and exhaust. Since the car weighs around 3200-3400 lbs, I doubt too that it would smoke a Type-R, unless it was raining .

Well, the post was on an A4 forum, so he probably exaggerated a little....who knows, the guy in the ITR is probably posting how he beat the A4 in the ITR forum, so you can't really trust those things.....just my 2 cents.

1.5bar??? On a stock turbo? That's insane.

A4's can get significantly faster (than stock) with just a chip upgrade... but they're not going to rule the streets or anything (unlike say a chipped S4... . I wouldn't expect more than high 14's from most A4's with only mild upgrades, so you should still be able to take them in a modded Maxima.

Lets put this in perspective...The A4 in MUCH heavier
than a 4th gen Maxima....My neighbor whichs lives right
next door has a 1.8TQAWD with the 1.0 bar chip (200HP he says)

I have a 97 Maxima SE 5sp with a Cattman Y-pipe, Stillen
Intake and exhaust (no b-pipe mods)...We have raced several
times on the way to work (we go the same way) and I can not
pull away from him at highway speeds...BUT...from a dead stop I have waxed him everytime...several car lenghts...Now
here is the difference for our comparison...We live in Denver which is at 5300" above sea level...Turbos loose
very little power above sealevel UNLIKE NA engines which
loose approx 3% per 1000ft..So you do the math...My car is
putting out approx 16% less HP and his A4 1.8T that is chipped is loosing nothing and I can beat him off the line.

So at sealevel where everything is even a 5sp 4th gen
should be able to beat a chipped A4 1.8T....

I have drove his car and he has drove mine (we switch 1 day
to go to work)....His car has nothing off the line...
and he praised the VG torgue curve...He was really impressed......So there is my perspective on the A4 1.8T.

Nice car....no bottom end grunt....He is now looking
for a S4 and wants to race me again after he gets it...
I told him sure..this time the tables will be turned
I'll get waxed....but I din't spend $40K...

ec said that the stock K03 turbocharger on the 1.8T is good for only 200hp, and that you'd need to move up to the K04 to get to around 240 with intake, exhaust, and ECU. Plus, some highly respected tuners have said that the stock bottom end won't be reliable with over 250-270hp, so if you wanted supercar performance with one, you'd have to rebuild it from the bottom up.

On my 87 Scirocco 16V with a 1.8 w/stock bottom end, I had cams, header, eliminted cat, exhaust, ported and polished head, fuel mods, plus a 125hp NOS ProFogger system, perhaps ~300hp. The bottom end held up great. The trany was the problem. But that little car flew!!! RIP

Another thing...

The 1.8t is a 4, and will in most cases, continue to have less torque than a Max, just because it has less cylinders. If it was the V6 A4, it might stand more of a chance.
