gas has come full-circle

Back in 2001, I flipped-out when I payed 2.139 in the Bronx for Shell super unleaded. Today, I filled up at Exxon with super unleaded for 2.139, and was happy that it had dropped 6 cents since last week, and also that it was only 6 cents more than regular. My Maxima has been getting super lately since it's so darn cheap relative to regular. I mean 6 or 30 cents more for that matter out of 2.079 for regular is a no-brainer.

Shot over to the Mazda dealership at lunch and did my Miata test drive for $35 today as it expires tomorrow. Really liked the tight gearshift and smart key. Steering was a tad light, not like the Z4 at all and can't say how it compares to the S2000, don't remember. Salesperson tried to get me to try the RX8 and also the new 6 with the 270 HP but my lunch hour is only 2 hours for pete's sake!

It's extra income he uses to finally justify buying premium gas after years of 87 octane abuse.

No, in this case I could drive any Mazda product and get a $35 gift card. Usually I hold out for $50 but what the heck, the Miata seemed interesting. Plus I had 2 hours for lunch and got it done in 1. The RX8 looked interesting but I didn't feel like spending any more time. Kinda like the credit card offers we get nowadays, it's usually $50 to $100 to open an acct. Don't see any harm, just remember to close 'em out AFTER the period stated in the fine print. Like United Air--they give you 20,000 miles upon opening the acct, and you need 25k to go anywhere in the US and Canada (comes in handy as the g/f's family lives in Surrey BC). But if you cancel within 6 mos, they take the pts. back. Fine print and super unleaded for the Maxima, can't beat it with a stick!

You all realize the difference in price between premium and 87 is less than $3 a tank?

Last I filled, which was on Sunday night, it was still 2.60/gallon of 93 octane at Hess. I'm going out tonight, so hopefully I see a brand new, low price.

They're practically giving that stuff away. Our regular gas costs more than that at any gas station.

Oh, I forgot to add that my amex blue card is now giving a 10% gas rebate, so that $1.90/gal is really $1.71/gal.

Gas should be getting more expensive now that oil barrels are $60+ again. Fill up with the cheap prices while you still can.

That's really outstanding. I'm getting only 5% from Citi, and mine is the gift card one, not dividends = cash. But, $1000 in gas/pharma/food purchases = $50 ExxonMobil gas card. I have an Optima. Amex is aggressive and they got me when I was 19 and a sophomore in college.

Saw 1.989 in Landsdale PA, but I think it shot up to 2.059. That's regular.

Are they not talking about the Mazdaspeed 6 with the turbocharged AWD I-4? That has 270, not their V6 version, but I'm going to go look now.

Edit: In fact, it's a 2.3L 16v I-4 with 274 hp at 5500 rpms, and 280 tq at 3000 rpms, going through a 6 speed tranny and AWD system. Should be a fun ride.

Yep. That car has a 4-letter feature that a Nissan Maxima will never have: limited-slip REAR differential.

Some gas stations had their prices shoot up 10 cents overnight, others didn't. Reminds me of the first $3 gas--cars are all lined-up, facing all different directions, onto the highway once again to get that cheap gas. Sometimes we do need to learn to be more civilized imho....

I got reg. at costco for $1.75 yesterday, minus 10% amex rebate = $1.57. Pretty soon they'll be paying me to fill up my car.
