Is a HID kit with built-in ignitor better than a kit with seperate ballast and ign?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I didn't know where to really ask this.

Everyone knows that there are many HID kits in the market, some expensive, some cheap. What I am confused about is this: there are kits with the ignitor built into the ballast and ones that have a seperate ballast and ignitor. I can see the convinience and less clutter of the built-in kit, but is there a quality difference? Thanks

I thought it used to be that the ignitors could only be so far away from the bulbs (wire length), so to create more flexibility in packaging (i.e. so you didn't have to have the ballasts so close to the bulbs) you saw setups with separated ballasts and ignitors.

I think I read that somewhere..I can't remember for sure.

Yeah, I think I was right actually:

What is the best: Non integrated or integrated igniter?

There aren't really big differences:
# Use a separate igniter HID system if there is a need for more than 8 inches long ballast to bulb wire. Many cars are extremly crampy around the headlights, so having a small igniter build into to bulb plug or into a very small box in the wiring, means that the ballast (which is a bigger box) can be mounted in the trunk if needed. Total physical volume of a separate ignitor HID systems are bigger, because of extra wires and connectors. So there is no advantage (rather a disadvantage) to using it if mounted less than 8inches from headlamp.
# Use a integrated igniter HID system (like the Philips LVQ212) if you have space enough space inside or around your headlight for it and a small enclosure for weatherproofing.

My Volvo HID retro has the ignitor built into the ballast. I think most OEM HID's have the two integrated, makes more sense.
