whats better overall 4th gen or 5th gen?

ive had these arguments with my buddy a few times. i own a 5th gen, but was initially looking for a 98 or 99, and still like the 4th a bit more. some argue that the 00 up are actually better cars, look better, etc. i like the clean body and tails on the 4th, as well as the lighter weight!!! the big plus on the 5th for me is the interior!!! but overall which do u guys think is a better car ans y..........and dont say its better just cause u have it.

I love the 5th gen front, but cant stand the 5th gen rear.
4th gen overall exterior is lovely.

4th Gen gets my vote.

4th gen, far better looking exterior IMO... lighter, faster... the interior's aren't that much different. 5.5 gen... different story.

Weight and clean body lines makes me vote for the 4G. The only thing that the 5G has on the fourth gen in my mind is the VI and interior.

I love my A32 ... And would rather have an A32 with a 3.5L ... The A33B looks nice, but so does an A32, some days I like the new, and some days I like the old ... But am glad I have both.

Well I believe in the 4th gen over any 5th or 6th gen maxima from a TUNER'S outlook. It is the superior vehicle when you look at it from this aspect. You can add the 3.5 swap, boost, juice or all inclusive (I am excluding basic bolt ons for the 3.0 because bolt on for bolt most 5-5.5th gen have an edge) and you will have a definite advantage over the upper gens mostly due to it being a lighter car. Now if you want to have a decent looking car with good power(whether it be stock, bolt-ons, or juice) and low mileage then 5th-5.5 gens are for you. Me personally, my 4th gen WILL be a weekend warrior. I will be looking to get a family car sometime next year. The 97-99 is in the Honda/Acura territory, where it is looked upon as a "young kids car to tinker with". It has no status whatsoever unless it is within the "tuner" crowd. Once again....my own opinion.

well if something we to happen to your 5th gen (god forbid) you'd have a vq 35 engine handy.

More room, power, bigger brakes and the side airbags make the 5th gen the car of choice. On a tighter budget I would jump on a 4th gen in an instant due to its proven reliability and lower running costs.

4th gen all around, I always put performance first, but it can be made to look real good. I still love 5th gens though. That interior is nice.

This thread is pretty stupid since the people with a 4th gen will vote for the 4th gen and people with a 5th gen will vote 5th gen... Can you guess what I vote for?

Fronts 11.0" vs 11.68" ..

A34 brakes > than 1,2,3,4,5g brakes, but heavier.

I vote for 4th gen by comparing/contrasting cost factors (what you get, and for how much)...what does that white picture with the O RLY on the side stand for? heh - nevermind found it in the FAQs for FAQs

your buddy is right, super6

4th gen rules.

it looks better, i love the 4th gen front and rear, 5th gen has an ugly rear and i don't like the big oval grille in the front, at all

but i like the interior of the 5th gen better, but i'd still go with 350z seats in a 4th gen, recover everything in good leather, new, fresh smelling, matching carpet and call it a day

i fell in love with the 4th gen maxima back in 94,when it first came out, so i have my reasons.

but the 5th gen has a very good motor and trans, in that respect it is better than the 4th gen, but 00vi is not enough to make the 5th gen better

4th gen Rules! 2k1 Mustang rules too! but only in red

I'd much rather have a VQ35 powered 5-gen. Seems like it gets a better auto tranny also.

super6 has a 2000 maxima, hence he's got the vq30dek , not the VQ35

the better motor is the VQ30dek or the VQ35De in 5.5gen than the vq30de

the better tranny is the 00-01 5-speed with dual synchros on 3rd gear
and the 5-speed auto that came in the 5.5gen can handle much more power than 4th gen auro, the 00-01 auto is the same as 4th gen auto.

i don't know if the vq35 6-speed is better than the 3.0 5-speed depends on driver preference

He says "00 up" I would assume 00 up = 00-03. As the 02-03 still have the older body style but have the newer engine. He doesn't necessarily say as compared to his particular car.

only because they have the 6AT. More gears= more time in the peak power range if driven right.

4g > 5g

5.5g > 4g

all depends on how much $$ ur willing to drop... If I was struggling to get enough $$ to buy a 4g, then I'd buy a 4g, if I had enough money to get a 5.5g, then I'd get the 5.5g.
