Sure will. I have one in my car right now. You can even use the VQ35 ones I think. Atleast you could use the 4th gen one on a VQ35, so I am guessing you can use a VQ35 one on a VQ30.

i know this is an old *** thread but i was wondering if i could swap my alternator (VQ30 2000 Max) with a VG30-DE from a 300ZX 96. I was getting this funny smell when I push my RPMS past 5 or 6 and I remembered that the reason I was getting that smell in my civic was because of a bad alternator, which then caused me to buy a new battery. Any help is appretiated!

No, they are not a directly interchangeable part, look at the mounting positions between the two alty's, they are clocked differently.

i see...so an oem replacement is the only way huh? can you explain what the smell is? it smells like someone with bad bowel movements, or to put it bluntly, a fart smell. I originally thought it was the battery, but meh, its gotta be the alternator.

1. Do you own or have access to a multimeter?

2. Do you know how to use a multimeter?

3. if yes, test the voltage @ the battery terminals while the engine is running. Should be around 13.8/14.1 volts.

4. remember..a maxima is not a honda civic.
