Quick strut question?

I feel kinda dumb for asking this as im sure theres an easy answer, but basically the top nut of my strut shaft worked it way lose and popped off, i got a new nut and managed to fanagle the shaft back into the mount which was a huge pain in the ***, but of course i cant tighten the nut down because the shaft just starts spinning when i try to tighten the nut.

How do i tighten this thing down, theres no where to grab it and hold it still, i see that the shaft has flat side, is this for a special tool to keep it from rotating?

Thanks guys, i feel like an idiot.

The top mount should have a D shaped hole where the strut (flat part) locks in place which prevents it from spinning. Is it stripped?

Go to your local gas station/repair shop and ask them to hit the nut with an impact gun. Tip the guy 10 bucks when he's done. As long as the hole in the mount is only rounded and not enlarged, it should be fine.

it must be stripped then because it no longer has its D shape, but i dont believe it to be enlarged as the shaft seems to fit rather snuggly in it. im going to have to get a friend to bring over an impact gun and compressor bc its definetly not possible to drive anywhere.....
