When replacing Clutch
When replacing Clutch
I'm getting ready to replace my clutch. I have a 2000 maxima SE and its about time to change it out. I have a ACT street clutch in it now. I had it in for over 130k now. I want to put another one in again. Do I have to replace my pressure plate or can i just resurface it and get just get a new clutch? I don't see paying over $400 for the set again. When the pressure plate is still in good condition. What do you guy think? Or is there a place I can order it that will be much cheaper then this?
Thanks

It would be foolish not to replace the whole clutch assembly after 130K miles once the tranny is out. The pressure plate provides the clamping force. It does loose it's strength over time. Even with a new disc, if the pressure plate gets soft, the clutch will slip.
When you replace your clutch you should replace your pressure plate unless you know for sure the PP is fine. It is a very important part of the clutch system.
You can get a lighter flywheel, but you should resurface the stock one if do not replace it. I have never heard of someone resurfacing the PP.
Many sites sell the clutch disk and pressure plate seperately so that you can mix and match more agreesive disks and PPs as you wish.
If you don't want to spend $400 on a clutch and are NA then you can just the the 5th gen clutch setup for <$200, but it will not be as aggressive as the ACT setup.
