canadian maxima owners, pls check this place out esp...wonder if HID kits are really possible?

http://www.xenonshop.com

they peddle the philips HID system for $620 shipped, includes everything. Phillips bulbs, ballasts, beam correction, blah, blah, blah...Looks
pretty damned good if you ask me! Check it out and pass it on to our little discussion group. and I understand these kits are totally retrofittable.

wonder if anyone has experimented with these?

Yes but no....
your beam patterns will be destroyed... meaning you won't see much better if any, probably worse, you will also be out a lot of money.

I saw that site on the 3rd gen area.

I've heard that they will lose the correct projection.
But I've never heard what product exactly will not work.
I was looking at that site too and was like dang that's not bad for HID.
But like Shing said that's alot of money to find out thay don't work.

Hey if you do try it let us know how clear and if it projects the right way. Or if when you put them on you say:
Man those birds sitting on that tree look really clear even
at night.

RE HID

I think I am going to ordor them either today or tomarrow, the cool thing about these lights is you can take them out when you sell your car and put them in your next maxima or what have you as long as there still 9004's.,also they make them for your fog's in the H3 size too.I think that would look so sweat having 4 real HID's.If I am pleased with 9004's then maybe I will ordor H3's too.I will post if and when I get these lights on in like 2 weeks.

Before you order, consider this. Currently no HID system will work for 9004 type headlight housing. Why you ask? b/c the reflectors on the 9004 housing was designed for a bulb with horizontal filliment. This is relative to the bulb. All current HID bulbs have vertical filliment. So if an ad/site says that it's beam corrected for 9004, it's most likely BS. Also consider this, you will have no highbeams. No highbeams b/c you are replacing a bulb with both high beam and low beam with just one beam. And yes, you do need high beams from time to time.

Also I am not sure where you saw the $620 shipped price, but what I see is $775 for standard kit.

Not to beat a dead horse but...

Why not just look into modifying I30 headlights to fit the same. I'm sure the mounts aren't that different but you probably will have some rewiring to do. If your hell bent on HID's this is the way I would go. Other wise a true HID kit would include new headlight assembies with the bulbs and proper wiring harness. BTW APC makes a wire harness for us so we can use the 80W bulbs.

Possible IF you replace the headlight housing and reflector...

I'd kill for an I30 HID retrofit kit or a replacement housing/reflector for the gen4..... but I haven't seen anything to that effect....

you should put the h i d's in your maxima housing it's not as bad as they say. the only thing is that the corner light looks so dim when the h i d's are installed.

to buy the h i d's you must be a dealer and have a tax id. i have a hook up that will sell me the h i d's but with out warr. because people touch or drop the bulbs. the unit is connected by + & - wires(2 wires) but the hard part is putting the bulb in. if a group deal comes in ( 5 people) i will talk to my hook up. cost with shipping will be around $525. but no warr. on the bulbs only the packs. let me know, it's better than paying $650. remember the hardest thing is installing the light bulb. you can inst. the 2 packs in less than 10 min.

Thanks,

About the I30 headlights

Are we talking about retrofitting them onto a 4th gen or 5th gen here? And have you ever done this before? Just wondering if you have any pics. Thanks!

I WLL FIND OUT HOW TO INST. THE BULB ON MONDAY THEY FIT ALMOST ANY CAR, I HAVE TO ASK THE INSTALLER IN MY JOB, HE WAS OUT TO DAY. WE DO AT LEAST 2 CARS A DAY. THE ONLY 2 CARS THAT I KNOW THAT HAVE PROBLEMS IS THE HONDA PRELUDE BECAUSE THE LENS GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE HOOD (YOU CAN SEE THE BIRDS AT NIGHT IN THE TREES SLEEPING). THE VW WITH DAY-LIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS, YOU MUST PUT A RELAY BEFORE THE BALLAST AND THAT PROBLEM IS GONE. WILL GET INFO. AND POST IT.

yeah, the install should be plug and play. I've installed the Philips kit on the ES300 and 300ZXs. It shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, max.
