Is it a good idea to drain/fill ATF after a rebuild within break-in

I'm about to hit the 1K mark after my rebuild and I was wondering is it a good idea to drain and fill soon or just wait untill the normal 25-30K intervals. I'm using regular dino oil so there isn't a big cost factor involved.

I think 1k is a bit premature. ATF doesn't degrade like engine oil does, and while there might be metal bits due to the new parts, I don't think that is a big deal. I mean, think about it, how many people change their ATF 1k after a new transmission? Most people probably change it at 30k, or not at all. If you must change at 1k, then the tranny shop would be getting all sorts of broken transmissions from not changing the fluid initially after the "break-in" period.
