i'm sound deadening my doors, and i'm wondering whether i should keep the plastic "vapor" shield that was originally sealed to the door. right now, all 4 of the covers are detached, so all of the gooey black sticky stuff is on them, along with being on the sheet metal of the outer skin.

if i permanently remove them, will it damage my locks & electronics in the door if it rains?

i just need to know if this plastic piece is vital for good protection against moisture..

You can get rid of the plastic stuff but you have to reseal it when your dynamating if you do it wrong then yeah you can mess it up the electronics. Just make sure you dynamat everything good.

so what you mean is...

you have to seal all of the holes and opening with dynamat, replacing the plastic's purpose, correct?
