What Happens When you Do the Speed Limit LOL (W/Video)

Food for thought..... All in favor of a 75+ Limit?

Like 30 km/h (18 mph) on a forty foot wide industrial road...

And 8 km/h (5 mph) parking lot speed limits never fail to make me laugh. If I actually did the speed limit in a parking lot I think the cops would be tempted to pull me over with the drunk-o-meter ready...

5MPH parking spots are a major LAWL! My college has that and I once wanted to see exactly how fast is 5MPH. Needless to say, two girls managed to walk by my car and that point I had enough.

That was funny as all get out! Here's the hang up....55mph ridiculous? YES!!!! However, not 55mph in all lanes at the same distance. Traffic rarely works like that. But I get their point. Point taken! Would like to know why the van that hit that parked car wasn't tailed and reported???

Dumb video. Speed limit has nothing to do with this. if the limit was even 75, you will still get the same flow if 4 cars drove 75 in a straight line down the freeway. LEft lane should be kept open.

However, funny video nonetheless. Must have pissed off alot of people.

lefty, maybe you missed the whole point. They are talking about not enforcing the speed limit till someone is going 80 and get a ticket for 25 over. Here in GA (where the video is shot) anything over 24 is big points. They arent saying that the speed limit should be 75....they are saying if its 55 then enforce it. My whole this tho is, don't make speed limits, people will drive as fast as they feel comfortable. Give tickets for wreckless driving, not speed.

that's in georgia, everything their is 75 at least I've never driven slower then that and anything slower is main roads that are 45, I never really thought about it but many times I was doing 75 in a 55 and a cop was behind me, Im even 1 of the few who will pass a cop when everyone else is staying with him.

I still think their has to be an unwritten law about pulling people over cause some cars at certain times and especially when everyone else was driving just as fast, it really hard to say if the car needed to be pulled over or the cop was filling a quota

why should it be left open if they were all doing the speed limit, the maximum allowable speed by law?

I don't care if you go the speed limit, that's your business. Just stay the heck out of the left lane for those that choose not to go as slow.

Nice link

Good point

Lousy audio editing (just being honest)

I'll add my +1 to the spread of this link and it's message.

As a student of the autobahn and the interstate, I can say I felt much safer in Germany where people were allowed to drive at their own appraised level of speed.

10 cars all within a tenth of a mile of each other, all going different speeds, BUT within +/- 1% of the same speed (thanks to cruise control and a stubborness to not click it off) is a recipe for road rage and disaster.

Either enforce it, or let it go!

Soooo if you go 75 in the left lane...and someone wants to go 90 would have to slow down move to the right and get back into the left lane....

nothing wrong with that. and if someone wants to go the speed limit in the left lane, that's perfectly legal. maybe a pain for some drivers, but they are not in the wrong at all. they have all the right in the world to be going the speed limit in any lane.

So you support left lane bandits that like to sit there going 55 while the rest of traffic is going 75? Legal, yes. Courteous, no.

i love that picture of all the backed-up cars coming down the road. lol. great video.
I agree with TXT-1. If ur going less than the traffic around you then get in the right lane. I think that no matter what speed ur goin u should get back over in the right lane after passing. I think ive heard that in europe its actually illegal to sit in the left lane when you CAN get over.

and then the person going 90 moves over so that the person going a hundred can pass right?? good luck getting people to do that in the us...how many times have you been stuck behind someone going 65 in the left/carpool lane...happens all the time in la

also im not trying to disagree with you....im just saying that not everyone even checks their rear view mirror to see if there is someone coming up nonetheless moves out of the way.....

you can actually get a ticket for going to slow even if it is over the speed limit....if the policeman believes that you are not going with the flow of traffic he can give you a ticket...well atleast that used to be the case....

Now you're getting the right idea. If people were more mindful of keeping the left lane open, than you wouldn't have idiots weaving in and out of traffic trying to pass the slower people. Do I support people going as fast as they want? No, but if they choose to go 100 MPH, that's their business and I am sure as hell getting out of their way.

Kevo268: It is a law in jersey that you have to ride in the right lane only except when passing. Cops can pull you over for staying in the left lane too long.

Is this not the case everywhere? Just becuase it's a law, doesn't mean it's easily enforced, or enforced often enough. IMO, you really can't "catch" someone staying in the left lane - especially when they see a cop. If a cop is parked on the side of the road, the left lane travlers will usually move to the right lane, or the cop's vision will be hindered to where he won't be able to make a clear judgement on how long that person has been in the left lane. THe only way to catch someone is a car patrolling along the highway, however, as soon as drivers see that too, they slow down and get in the right lane.

it's not like that everywhere. it was either just passed or just defeated here, i forget which. doesn't matter to me though, i don't do it because i'm not stupid. the left lane is the "passing lane," my little driving rulebook told me that before i even got my permit. i'll agree that it's a hard law to enforce though. i think driving tests should be harder... i see people (mostly people around my age, so they're fairly fresh off their driving tests) all the time just showing a flagrant disregard for the most basic rules of the road, i don't know why people like that are allowed to drive at all.

I wish they would of tried that in DC/VA/MD area on 495. The story would of read something like this. 4 college students were ran off the road and got their a$$ beat by a road rage filled mob of commuters!!! So what exactly did that video prove again???
