There really is no reason to sand them. Just make sure they're clean and dry. With an old newspaper and some masking tape, you can actually mask-off the area surrounding the blade arms, and paint them while they're on the car. I have done it on two different cars, with no problems. I don't think you need high-temp paint either - just some good quality Krylon or something similar (stay away fom the $0.99 Wal-Mart special). Remove the blade inserts (the rubber), mask carefully, and have at it!

1. either take them off or just tape off around them
2. scratch off the old paint with steel wool
3. paint with rustoleum black BBQ paint

I used brush on myself, but spray paint works just as well

I had a spot on mine that was sun faded. I just bought some bumper paint, kinda a matte black. and like stated above, used newspaper underneath and sprayed away. took maybe a minute or two.
