Explain this to me, i took my new stillen Y to Meineke today to get it put on. They refused to do it! saying it would be illegal and that they could get a huge fine for putting it on? I do live in CA but i don't know if that makes a difference? I signed up to go to a perfomance shop and have it put on later, hopefully i won't run into the same problem with them. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm not sure but I think that fourth gens have pre-cats on the stock Y-pipe. and since removing any cat is considered illegal most shops won't do it. I wouldn't think the performance shop will have a problem though. If you have even a basic mechanical knowledge you could install it, just 9 bolts and transfer of the O2 sensor

Save your money and do it yourself just go to Cheston's site http://www.maximadriver.com and click on How2 and then there you go, there is the Y-pipe section. Just jack up the car and put some stands under it and you could do it. Save your money for another mod man. You'll be happy I told you this.

Definately do it yourself.

4-Gens do have precats that's probably why they denied you.
I did mine myself and the only thing I can tell you is.... invest in some WD40 and a cheater bar. I needed it for one stuborn bolt on the cat. Other than that, it was a walk in the park.

Here's everything you need to know, A-Ron Max:

Alt Z

$75.00 for Y-pipe install.

This is where Stillen sends their customers to get their Y-pipes installed.
