Those with Upgraded brakes step in...

Has anyone that has upgrade to 300zx brakes or any other brake upgrades gone back to stock brakes? If so any regrets? I am contemplating going back to stock....

What do you have now? If you have ONLY the 300z calipers/rotors, then I bet you won't feel that much difference. If you have the 13" rotors/brackets/rings then there will be a big difference. You will probably hate it.

I currently only have the 300z rotors/calipers....and that is what I'm thinking of getting rid of....was going to go with the cobras and din't want to buy new wheels as I had all the stuff ready before...might go back to stockers with upgraded pad/rotors..

Because you didn't heed my advice when buying wheels man You might have a chance with the J/Q calipers and 17" wheels. You still running the Mustains?

But if you are going to spend the $ for pads/rotors AND if you are on a small budget, then I'd try just the J/Q rotors/calipers. Should be the same mounting procedures for the Z stuff but you would have better caliper clearance.

MANG...I stopped running the rustangs...years ago...where ya been? I am assuming that I would still need the relocation brackets for the J/Q rotors/calipers right?...it might be back to stockers.....something to think about but definately wondering if anyone has gone back to stock and their experiences...

so stop trying to sell me another set of brackets...

What kind of brokeback wheels you running now?

Like I SAID. Run the J/Q caliper AND ROTORS. No bracketos needed. But you won't get the upgraded torque arm advantage. But it's better than going el stocketo.

I'll never go back to stock unless I sell the car. Even then, i'll prob leave them on there.

brokeback? Here are the wheels....Jeff...

and I definately noticed the difference with the brakes, I have just been thinking of going back to stock to open up the options on wheels, but I think I'm just going delusional....why would anyone want anything stock?

Any one got REAL feed back on the J/Q caliper/rotor setup?...

What exactly do you want to know? I only know of about two people that actually did the swap. One on a 3-gen and Tilley. Karim just got done doing this but he used my brackets. Plain and simple, stock maxima brakes suck. I'll say it again, the maxima is the largest sedan Nissan still put the puny single piston caliper on. AND still used the tiny 11.x rotor.

Thinking about getting new wheels....but with the winter we have here its tough to go with the brackets/cobra rotors as 16s don't fit. I currently run 300zx NA stock 16s in the winter and my 17s in the summer/spring. I guess I could swap out the brackets and rotors with the wheels/season....hmmmmm

Now ya'll got me thinking.....

Yes, if you're rotors are already milled down, you only have to take off the brackets, rings and rotors. Then install the Z rotors back on. You don't even have to rebleed anything as you don't undo the line.

The rings can be a PAIN to get off though

IMO, it would seem like suicide going back to stock brakes. I feel like i'm going to die on the freeway after a few stops in a stock maxima

The 300zx rotor/caliper combo would help for brake fade but you'll need the extra torque leverage from a larger rotor to really convince yourself that you'll never EVER go back to stock

No shat Larrio! Everytime I drive the wife's rx300, I'm like "do these things actually function!"

It's a good thing my G35 brakes are on par with my old front/rear bbk. But since they upgraded to larger rotors/2 piston calipers in 05, I'm trying to find an used set for a mild bbk upgrade

Hey man, just an FYI, I can fit my stock 15's over my Z32 upgrade with spacers. If all you need is a fit for winter wheels, spacers/adaptors might be the way to go.

Have you ever driven a maxima with larger brakes? Its hard to comment on how much you like something without a comparison

I will admit that the stock brakes are adequate enough for local street driving. But stock brakes don't offer the brake feel or shorter travel to ensure confidence in high speed or racing situations
