Just got in Accident this morning...Anybody know if Insurance will cover my 2k2 HID's

I have 2001 & now that I think about it, will insurance cover my 2k2 headlamp cost? Anybody go through this?

I don't have a receipt for headlamps since I bought headlamps from member Jer years ago through paypal.

First car accident with the Maxima...

They'll only cover the stock headlights, since HID"s weren't an option in 2001

If you had called and told them to cover the HID's maybe they would, but that still costs extra.

You can also work it out with the bodyshop. The body shop I took my car to last year replaced my aftermarket stuff and the insurance company paid for it. I had the clear bumper lenses, aftermarket side marker lenses and I have Tokico Illumina shocks. On the passenger side is where I got hit. I told the owner of the bodyshop about the aftermarket stuff and he ordered a new Illumina shock and the lights. Insurance company didn't say anything.

This is exactly what I'm doing with my car right now as it's getting fixed from my accident a few weeks ago. If you just tell the repair shop what you have on it they will ususally replace it with the same part or in the worst case scenario you'd prob just pay the difference out of pocket from the HID headlight and the one for your 2001.

If you have a rider on the policy for the lights they will cover it. Other than that you're going to have to go around it some how like the above posts.

yeah, if you didn't have your aftermarket stuff covered by your insurance then they won't cover it - even though the headlights are oem, they weren't available until 2k2. My buddy had his car broken into; they stole his apexi rev-meter, vafc, aftermarket shift **** and in the process destroyed the wiring harness. His insurance would only cover the OEM parts that were destoryed.

ouch just when you get the estimate say you have 2002 headlights and make sure they order 2k2 instead of 2k. but what did you hit? new bumper, hood, headlight, foglight, fender.

most likely not unless you know people at the shop. ins only cover aftermarket stuff if you tell them you have them, which will make your isn go up, so most people dont do that. was it your falut or other guys?

Sorry to hear that..Just an idea..If you get some connections to the shop thats doing the work (ie, you know a guy there, or you know someone that gives them lots of buisness) Maybe they'll charge the most they can from the insurance company, and sacrafice some of the profit for your fix..Just thoughts..

The logic in this thread is a bit odd.

How are aftermarket headlights getting stolen any different from an aftermarket CD player getting stolen? Your insurance will cover the CD player, won't it? Same with your rims, won't they?

Also, when I installed my 02-03 HIDs in my 00, I called USAA (my insurer) to see if they were covered, and if I had to pay extra. They told me that any "part" of the car, stock or aftermarket, is covered under my standard comprehensive, while any non-part inside the car (i.e. CD case, sunglasses, etc) can either be claimed on my car insurance or on my homeowner's insurance.

With the HIDs...if they DON'T cover it:
1. the ballasts are still good, and they are the expensive part.
2. just find a new headlight housing (without ballasts) and install your OEM ballast into it)....the 02-03 headlight housing can be found for under $100 at a junkyard anyhow - whereas a NEW 00-01 headlight assembly is $150 or so from the dealer, IIRC.

i notice everybody is saying if it "got stolen". well, he said he was in an accident and hasnt said otherwise so lets just say he was in an accident. ask your insurance company, and if they say no just have the shop make sure they write it up for whatever and get you the HID headlight.
