Freeze plug replacement estimate!! Need Help!!
Odds are that if you've rusted through some freeze plugs, the others are probably in pretty bad shape. $1200 seems like a lot, you may want to get another estimate. Maybe another mechanic can replace the plugs without pulling the engine.
Years ago I had a freeze plug go out in a GM V8. I bought a repair plug from the auto parts store that was made of rubber and had a bolt in the middle of it. You remove the old plug, stick the rubber one in the hole and then tighten the bolt to expand the plug. I held up for more than a year, then I sold the car.
