should I paint my calipers???

I have a burgundy/maroon '89 GXE and wanted to dress up my calipers by having them professionally painted. I know red is the usual color most people opt with for a sporty look, but I'm not so sure I want it to be that flashy. SO...would it look weird if I had them painted to match the burgundy??? What about black, just to make it look new and clean-looking? Opinions welcome, thanks...

i hate these "do you gheys think i should..." threads. who are you trying to impress? if you want to do something, do it! i think red on burgundy would look bad cuz they would kinda match, but wouldn't. go with a more contrasting color if you decide to do it. black would be nice.

mine are painted, but just a stock looking dark grey (gunmetal) color. They were kind of ugly, anyway. Yes, mine are stock, but my wheels show a lot of brake and it looked a bit better that way.

I don't think I would bother painting your calipers body color or anything unless you had 300zx brakes or better.

ACK! I'm Blind.

Well, I suppose if your car is Red then making the calipers match is sort of Ferrari like.. But if you dont have the logo, this little red lump sitting behind the wheel is butt ugly.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think painted calipers look great with an open wheel, and even better at speed.

For a newbie you have very strong opinions. Why not tell us about your car?

Well, with a closed wheel, they would look just fine :-)

If you are going to paint them, then you need to keep them clean. No sence drawing attention to it otherwise.

My Maxima is a Stock 98 Silver Maxima GXE Automatic. I have owned it since new. It has 78,000 miles on it.

I have been a member here since 98. I lost my user id and password when I moved back to the US from Canada and my email address was changed.

In any case, You will find that people have strong opinions regardless of how many posts they have made on Maxima.org.

In my case, I have been critiquing automotive design since about the same time I became sexually aware about 35 years ago.

True, true, but for a guy who has done nothing to his own car he has a alot of nerve expressing his negative review of someone else's car. I forget who said it first but there is a saying "If you having nothing good to say, say nothing".

I have graphite paint that I should use this summer, another project of mine. Not too flashy, but at the same time cleans up the caliper's looks.

The OP asked for an opinion. I gave it. I dont need to paint my calipers to know that I dont like red calipers on cars that are not red.

I also dont need to lower my car, throw a set of mags and tires on it, paint my calipers, install a tomatoe can muffler and an intake and blast all over town to know I'd look like a freaking joke.

I know this because I did it when I was twenty something. Now Im 40 something.. Im in the BTDT club..

I'm going to be painting my calipers tomorrow afternoon. I personally think gold/bronze calipers on a black car is gorgeous. After painting the calipers on my VW GTI gold/bronze, I think I'm going to have a new theme in the garage

Here's what they looked like on the GTI:

Well, I'm almost done my calipers and I can't wait to put my wheels back on

Took 4 hours to prep (jack, remove wheels, clean, and mask) all 4 calipers, and I've finished 5 coats of gold and 2 coats of clear so far. I'm working my way to 5 coats of clear before I'm done. I'll take some pictures later on

Edit: Alright, here are the results: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=473499
