im very dissapointed in what the maxima has come to be. The CVT transmission seems like a quality addon. but no 6speed? 255hp? whats really going on.
it is turning into an altima. but hey, its still a beautiful car.
i'll keep my 4th gen!

for the eventy-billionth time:
if they're not going to give it AWD, or distinguish it in some other (positive) fashion from the Altima, what's the f*cking point? why waste time/money pushing this thing out there? are they (Nissan) afraid an AWD (or RWD for that matter) Maxima will cut into Infiniti sales (M35/M45)?
more & more, it looks like i'll be keeping my 4th gen 'til they make flying cars.

Someone needs to send the Nissan design team a link to this thread. Maybe it'll help pull a lot of heads out of a lot of a$$es...
And just to think how much I used to anticipate the release of every year's new maxima. Now I dread it.

6.5 gen. new hood, headlights, front bumper, wheels, rear bumper, spoiler.... yeah how could you say exterior changes? A lot more has changed all over during this mid-gen than the 5th gen.
I have a feeling that people will be impressed with the tranny. It is not the same used already on other Nissans. Max was the 1st to see this one.
When will members realize they were never the target audience when Maxima was ever designed????????
The Altima and Sentra have always been made for the under 30 crowd. Maxima as a flagship has always been a mid-luxury Nissan with power.

CVT trannies SUCK....they are no fun to drive, they are a reliability nightmare (ask anyone with a CVT Honda, and Honda quality > Nissan quality).....The maxima has gone from a 30-something guy's car to a 50-something female realtor's car...sad, sad, sad.
The problem with the Altima is it cannot take the place...it is a big, beefy car as well. I've driven an org'ers Alti SE-R and don't think it feels very sporty at all. Feels like a bigger car than my Maxima (which it is).....
Nissan has lost the niche mid-side sports sedan category.....Thank God I can afford a BMW or Audi for my next car, because the European cars continue to be stylish, while the Jap cars keep getting uglier, particularly in Nissan's case (see the new Sentra, for example)

Nissan needs a new design team quick.

It definitely does NOT deserve the 4DSC moniker, anymore.
What a bunch of crap. What used to set the Maxima apart was the choice of a manual tranny. CVT is for snowmobiles

That does kinda suck, i have an 01 with 83k now, next max is probly gonna be a low mileage(less than 50k) 2003 6 speed :/ or a 3.5SE altima. Unless I found a REALLY good deal on a used 04 6 speed, the whole 6th gen though... its a classy car, and its pretty nice and all but... 5.5 ftw!

I have to admit that after the 4th gen, Maximas were on a downhill spiral. Nissan made the Maxima absolutely pointless. Why get a new Maxima when there are much better options for the price you pay?
Hopefully they figure something out

First, 5.5 gen ownz all...
Second, I will argue that Nissan does not have a terrible design team. Even though we may not like what they're doing with their cars in terms of features and target audience, Nissan/Infiniti vehicles are still better looking than Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus (IMHO).
And how was the M35 a mistake? That car is beautiful!
