The Nissan CVT is not a reliability nightmare...I have yet to talk to someone with a Murano and hear them say the CVT is nothing but problems.

I think most people have this idea that CVT is a horrible thing because of what has happened to Honda.

 

Oh, haha, I'm sorry, I misread your post before. I thought you were saying that you always hear about problems with the CVT.

What I meant was that if it is problematic, that's a shame because it's a nice vehicle otherwise (the Murano).

[Nissan has lost the niche mid-side sports sedan category.....Thank God I can afford a BMW or Audi for my next car, because the European cars continue to be stylish, while the Jap cars keep getting uglier.

I currently own a 2005 Infiniti G35 6mt and my wife has my old (2001) Maxima SE with 80K miles on it. Prior to that, I owned a 1999 Max as well. Let me say for the record that I STILL prefer the Maxima over the Altima by a long shot. Everything about the Altima (in my opinion, anyway) screams cheap interior, Pontiac Grand Am wanna' be. The plastics and controls are horrible in the Altima, and the tail lights are, well, the worst in the history of the automobile industry.

Personally, I think Nissan is slowly transitioning the Maxima from a "sport" sedan (which it never really was), to a more luxury based sedan like the Avalon or Chrysler 300. That's the vision I've had for the Maxima since 1999, because it was painfully clear that it simply wasn't a tight handling sport sedan. If you guys think that there isn't a market for a $25-28K upscale sedan, you're not in the business world. The Maxima is still a much sexier option than the Camry or Accord, while the Altima remains the choice for people who prefer HP and don't care about being seen in the vehicle.
