Has anyone ever done this?
for the 5th gen, has anyone ever figured out a way to utilize the space above the vents? is it possible to fashion a enclosure to hold a screen up there?

Ive seen one, but it was all custom fiberglass. Search around, the pictures on on the .Org somewhere.
