Hit and Run accident

Hello everyone

first of all I'd like to apologize for the long post but I hope I included everything

Yesterday, I was headed over to my girlfriends house and I stopped at a stop sign in town. It was a 4 way intersection and someone ran into me and my head hit the steering wheel and the airbag light came on... I began to step out of my car to see the damage and this white 4 door small sedan had hit the back of me they were pointing towards the side of the road (they as in 2 women) so I got back into my car and pulled over and they sped off. I whipped off after them my airbag light still on and ran 2 traffic lights chasing this car I could see 3 or 4 cars ahead of me through my small town. They got away so I pulled into a parking lot and called the police. They did a police report and they havent gotten back to me. The officer pointed out that they left an "imprint" on the back of my car.

Im not very experianced in photoshop all Ive really done is shaded it and stuff like that but I was able to flip the image around because its written backwards on my car

here is the picture backwards

and here are my photoshop skills of flipping it around so it can be read properly

here are the large images if needed:

What I hope is that there is someone here who might be able to decipher this.

From the shading I have done so far, i think the last numbers are 5 and 7 and the first number I believe is a 2. THe police officer said that all california licence plates have a number then 3 letters then 3 numbers

the roundish dot I guess is from a bolt on thier licence plate and isnt included on thier lettering

What imprint are we looking for? Is this a puzzle, like finding a smiley man in a bunch of coffee beans? That was an internet hoax.

the bumper is all smashed around the edges towards the gas tank in the rear and it broke these peices of plastic that I assume go over the airbag sensors. I had to have the car checked by nissan to make sure the airbag light and they replaced these pieces of plastic at the stealership for 100 bucks and the airbag light isnt stuck on now so im gonna add that into the money that the people who hit me need to pay

and I did chase after them it was a bad thing at the time but I was really really mad

pictures re-sized sorry about that they were damn big. there is a slight imprint of thier licence plate the top image is backwards because its an exact image off of the back of the car and the bottom one is flipped around so it can be read. If you darken the images a bit the lettering stands out a bit more but I hope to find someone that could get farther than me

and who pays when these morons w/ no insurance hit those who are insured?? ggrr.....

Well keep in mind that they might have had a vanity plate as well.

The second "digit" looks like a 4 to me. The last four look like "MS57".

Funny, some asian lady rear ended me in my dad's Lude 3 years ago and left an imprint as well, I remember laughing about it and how we could have tracked her down if she ran off.

But this is actually quite interesting and entertaining, I'll keep trying FWIW.

I was bored so I opened it in PS and messed with the contrast a little (not great at PS, and the difference isn't noticable but it brings out the edges a little more). I think TinyPic resized it after the upload but here it is:

From the looks of it, assuming its a standard CA license plate, to me it seems like "2-HM857" or "2-HN857". I have no clue what the second "letter" is but it looks almost like a 4. The 5th spot could be an 8, 2, or S. Also like someone said it might be a custom plate... Good luck man if I were you I'd try to get a better, sharper picture of the imprint if possible..

man that sucks.......should'nt the cops have a way to get that plate number off of your bumper?

make and model of the car?

next time, learn to memorize the the plate number and stop chasing.
good luck.

That sucks. Someone hit my moms 350Z conv. last weekend and ran. She was so shocked she just sat there until it was too late, and I don't think that she could have caught a Porsche 997 turbo. I can't believe that people suck so much that they will leave you screwed when you did nothing wrong.

That would be classic Jerry Bruckheimer. The man does hit after hit.....funny how the t shirts are like $25, but only $5 on the Strip, and no difference.

It's one of those unfortunate things in life, there's a lot of dishonesty and it bl***. But real life isn't HoLLyWoodLand, so sometimes we just have to take it. If we start dusting for prints, DNA evidence, secret ATM or red-light cams we're not solving the problem which is damage to the vehicle....

2AHN857 would be my guess by looking at it. try taking the pictures to the police station and have them look at it, maybe they will know. also tell them what we on here have said about the plate characters.
