Stereo question
If I were to replace my front speaker grills with custom made aluminum covers, would that affect sound quality? Obviously the aluminum ones would have lots of cutouts and slits in them so that sound isn't blocked. Kind of like the ones on the Momo speakers. Also, if I were to cover my rear package shelf with a custom aluminum cover, would the reflection be too bad to see out the back window? Both of these ideas are currently in progress, but I don't want to go any further if it's not feasable.
In one word, Yes.
In another word, no. It depends mainly on how they are made. Aluminum will reflect sound. Also think about this. depending on the size of the slits, up to half of the speaker can be covered! Anything in front of the speaker, including speaker grill cloth can affect the sound quality. Alot of research has to be done in order shape the slits just right to let the sopund pass, and not diffract it.
They do look cool though......

I personally wouldn't do anything with that rear deck unless you had a way to cover it up.
1. it's just as bad as putting a huge "STEAL ME!!!" sticker on the windshield, unless you have a way of hiding it when you don't want it to be seen.
2. I think it would be too bright during the day- too much glare on the rear windshield. you might be able to brush it out, then cover it in a clear paint with a matte finish.. that should help, but I'd still think it would be very bright.
what I thought about doing with mine (since I'll be cramming a pair of 12s into the rear deck one of these years) was to cover it in aluminum also, but then make a carpet cover to put over the whole thing when I don't want to show it off.. Most of my system is designed to be stealth 99% of the time, but then you pull the covers off and BOOM!
