Hey guys, i have a question. It's like only 1 month I have my 5 spd and didn't abuse it yet. The otherday, i swaped my tokikos on it and as soon as i let go ofthe cltch on reverse, it vibrated a lot and i heard like a little pop sound. I know someting serious must have happened inside it, but when i let go of the clutch, it sounds like it's turning and the axles are out of the tranny, but maybe not. I have no clue. Should i get it rebuilt or should i just look for a new one? If so, anyone have an 20th ann. lsd for sale? I would like to spend the least as possible, so if getting a new one is my only choice then i'll spend whatever it is on the lsd, but it has to be in top shape, cause i have a lot of bad luck with trannies and don't want to add another to the list

 

I think you should figure out what the problem is first before you go and try to fix something that you are unsure is even the problem. Don't go fixing stuff based on a guess that you think "might" be a problem but "maybe not" as you stated in your post.

Definitely find out what's up but to answer your question, if it is the tranny,and not the clutch or anything silly like that, i'd probably suggest getting a 2000-2001 5 speed. I got one 30k ago and it still runs like a dream. It had 56k when I got it.

Now, I'm no guru by any chance but given the fact that I did swap my suspension a few months ago, a couple of things are popping up in my head (anyone else jump in here as well..)..is it possible when you dropped the suspension the control arm might have dropped too far effectively popping the axles out a little bit? Just a thought ...You might have to put her up on jacks and eliminate the obvious and go from there....

^^^^ I think you hit the nail on the head. Sounds like one of the axles popped out of the diff. Jack up the car and make sure the axles are properly seated in the trans.
