engine trouble- please help

I just put a new engine in my Nissan. Everything is together, all fluids in, everything hooked back up. One problem- engine will not start. When you turn the key, the starter goes and goes, but engine will not turn over. After about 5 seconds, the battery fades, and after a while, it will not even attempt to start. I took the battery to Autozone and had it charged back up. Same thing happened.

Things I have noticed:
-battery seems to fade VERY quickly. Battery test at Autozone showed good battery
-When I open the gas cap (as if to add gasoline) no escaping hiss sounds.

Any input would be helpful.

You say the engine "will not turn over". Do you mean the starter isn't turning it or do you mean the engine is cranking, but not starting???? Please clear that up so we may better assist you.

Yes, Machinist knows what he's talking about.. check those two things.

Also, if your "new" motor is used.. your fuel injectors might be rusted/clogged. Try using the original ones if you still have them.

Check for spark. Take a spark plug out, connect the wire and ground the plug to the engine. Turn the engine over to see if you have spark. If you don't have spark it could be a bad crank sensor.

hook the batt to a charger so it doesnt die for one. Also an engine needs three thigns to run: fuel, spark, air. Check em all

Speaking of batteries, what kind (wet, gel, or agm) of battery is stock on a 2000? Mine died, for I was away on vacation for 2 months. Plus what amp are these rated at, I have a charger, which does 2,10 and 25 amps.

I'm going to check the FSM, but I'm pretty sure it says not to use this method to check for spark.
