Copper Crush Rings
i remember going to autozone and asking for these. the guy said they didn't exist. i called him an idiot and left for the stealership. they were 50 cents a piece 2 bucks?? damn

imho the ring should only be replaced with the drain plug. I tried to get the old one off and it was difficult--it was crushed and micro flat, couldn't remove it from the old plug. DOH--guess that's why it's called a crush ring. I believe the purpose of the ring is to prevent the plug from leaking, such as a gasket. Also, it allows for the torque applied at the plug to be of less consequence. Without the ring, over-torquing would be a common problem I believe. But it doesn't wear out and it wont fall off when you do an oil change.
Don't understand why anyone would want 10, or 12. I have an extra--send me a self-addressed stamped envelope and you can have it for free. Or I can FedEX it for $15 overnight.....
