Do you use your handbrake?
A must since the car is manual, I always park and leave it in nuetral, even on hills. Also force of habit to leave it in nuetral cause of the remote start. So I always use handbrake.

Can an automatic transmission in park actually roll?

Is that when you brake and the front of your car kinda goes down?
Cops notice this kinda stuff?
How do you avoid it and what other stuff can you do to avoid getting caught by cops doing whatver you do...?

My office is just off a long, straight, fast road that is right off a highway, so make no mistake... those rear brakes were HOT by the time I stopped, and there was maybe a minute of cool-down time before I parked the car. My parking spot is on a slight incline, so I HAD to use the p-brake. After a few hours of having the car sit there clamping on really hot rear rotors, I went out to it to grab lunch and found NO warpage whatsoever.

WTF? A functioning parking brake will not let the car move once it is engaged. You need to have your parking brakes checked if they do.
For manual guys I always use mine and never leave the car in gear. I prefer to let the parking brake do its job, it's called a parking brake for a reason.
Auto guys, even when you park on a flat surface the car usually moves a tad bit after engaging to park, this is not good. Also when it does move don't you notice the thud when shifting into gear? That can be used to alleviate the thud.

I can't imagine them designing something that would damage your car by using it..
It's usually a good idea to give it a pull every once in a while anyway... otherwise it may seize up and you may not be able to use it... the e-brake can actually apply 30% of your regular braking power, so if you ever had an emergency situation where your brakes failed or whatever, it could be something you need..

I drive an automatic, but I usually apply my parking brake, even if I am parked on a level surface. I just feel that the car is more secure if the parking brake it applied. Plus, I don't think that it hurts the vehicle if it is applied.

Growing up in England, I noticed everyone I ever rode with used the handbrake when parking. It was taught there to use it at lights, to prevent rolling back. They really teach you in driving school to use the handbrake and hold it as you release the clutch to only move forwards. Pretty cool.
Anyway, when coming to America and getting a stick shift car, I've always used my brake. Seems contrary to the locals though

surprising results, im with most people, regardless if im on a hill or not ill still use it. I know what you are talking about with the park pawl thing. If you notice if you put it in park with no handbrake the car rolls a bit then stops, and if you go to take it out of park its hard or comes with a clunk. Neither of which i can imagine being good for the transmission. I think theres only been a couple of times i havent used it and thats when i was learning to drive and i forgot to put it on. The way i usually do it, is put it in neutral foot on brake, then hand brake on let of brake then into park. My usual routine doesnt seem to take much longer anyway.
I use it most of the time. I was told that it can seize if you don't use it. The only time I don't use it is on a level surface or in sub-zero weather. Also, the e-brake activates the shoe on our maxima doesn't it? Not that pads itself.

IMHO, it is the same as with turn signals - everyone is supposed to use them, very few people actually do.
Things that are not an option on any car should be used, e.g., seat belts, parking brake, turn signals, headlights, etc., otherwise you could choose not to get them when buying a car.
I'm an auto and i always use the e-brake. When i go to park and stop i keep my foot on the brake, put the car in park, pull the ebrake and then let go of the brake. I think this helps to conserve your tranny also when you put the car in D that bump into gear isnt as harsh. Thats just my opinion

that's what I've been thinking. "drivin' sidewayz...."
