I love the maxima, simply put. I wish I could find one that would fit my requirements, or wants, though. I have 15 thousand total, so I can't buy one for 15, because I won't have enough for taxes and such. So anyway, I want a 5 speed SE with every option, 97+, and less then 50 thousand miles (and mods already on wouldn't hurt). Maybe that isn't reasonable.. I don't really know, but it's the hardest damn thing to find. First off, am I out of my mind for trying to find that car? And secondly, I've been thinking about other cars to buy, I need a car and can't wait for that magic maxima to appear. So, I've found an 97 Audi 1.8t, considerably slower, smaller... blah blah not a maxima. However, for $600 you can boost it up to 190 HP and 206 lbs of torque.. which to me sounds good, but I'm inexperienced with any of this so it may still be a lot slower. I'm looking for some feedback on the Audi.. if there is such a maxima out there... or a car that you would buy with $15g that is at least newer then a 96.

Thanks

You can definitely get a 97 5-spd SE for under $15K, it's just a matter of finding it. Try www.autotrader.com.

If you go to a dealer (my friend buys all his cars with cash) tell them if the car is like 14,000 tell them you will pay 14,000 cash including taxes, if they dont like it start to walk away trust me they will call you back and sell it to you for what you want. The best word you can say at a dealership is $CASH$ they love it, cause they dont have to go through as much paper work for loans and stuff. Just try it you can get a great 97+ se 5spd for under 15k

I got my 97 maxima se (black on black)with 47k miles for $16k and I did it with no downpayment but with my parents credit. All you have to do is hustle the sales man they wanted $32k for my maxima and that was only 6 months ago.
If you live in jersey hit me back and I can go with you to get a good deal.

My car is a 5-spd 98 SE with every option except wind deflector. The list was a ridiculous 29,400 but I paid 22,700 in 1998, 0 miles. Would I be willing to take a 7,700 depreciaton loss for 48,000 miles of usage? You bet. But I like driving a car that's paid for, so I wouldn't sell it to you. Since I am the original owner I know every single annoyance of the car, and there are many due to questionable build quality. So will you find cars for 15 grand, 97 or newer? You better believe it. Problem is those cars are for sale for a reason. Seems like a lot of Maxima drivers punish their cars, then dump em. Ones that are in reasonably good shape are not for sale, or the greedy owners want alot more. C'mon, we all got the big 6 grand or more off list, don't try to take away the 2500 rebate that you got from the used car buyer. Edmunds.com is watching! *lol*

Yeah, it's pretty easy to find a 97 SE... but one that is fully loaded and a 5-speed with under 50k miles... isn't so easy. I have checked the "for sale" board, even got in contact with one of them, set up a meeting point, and when i asked for the confirmation, he didnt respond, and I sent more emails to him, but he didnt respond.. his name on here is "milkrocks" and here's the thread.
