After the talk about milage in another post, I started talking to my Nissan Mech about rebuilding my engine and tranny, and discussing different options, (for more power of course!) and he mentioned one thing he could do is blueprint the engine. I played along at that point so as not to look dumb, so I thought I would do it here What does it mean? If the enigine is rebuilt, what are the differences between a blueprinted and non blueprinted one? what HP differences can be seen? Thanks for making me feel smarter.....

Back in the old days, the drawings for all the car's parts were blue prints (theye were blue because of the process used to make them). The idea was to make all the parts perfectly meet the dimensions and tolerances of the drawings. Castings generally were farther from spec than machined parts. Things that were typically done was to match the intake manifold ports to the ports in the heads, cc'ing the combustion chambers (making sure they were all the same volume), cleaning casting flash out, etc. These things would have a big performance impact on big American car engines from the 70's and earlier which had sand cast blocks and heads. Japanesse engines tend to have more precise castings and are machined/fit to tighter tolerances than these old engines. (They have to be just to stay together at the higher RPM's that they run at.)
Aside from a light port and polish, I don't think that theres a great deal of performance to be gained from "blue printing" a Max engine, unless higher performance parts are used.
