I am going to be taking my Progress springs off and putting back on my stock springs. My question is I never put aftermarket struts/shocks on and I have had these springs for about 9 months or about 9,000 miles. Will my factory struts/shocks be affected enough where I have to buy new ones from being used on lowering springs. I am tired of scraping my driveway when me and my family (wife and two sons-2 years and 6 months old) my front valance is badly scraped up on the bottom. I also will be selling my 15 x 6.5" ADR GT-SPORT rims AND TIRES 205/65R15 and going with KONIG VERDICT 17x7" with 225/45R17. I know I will be losing my nice no wheel gap. But I will gain it back from the 17's. Tell me will I be ok by just putting my factory springs back on and not having to buy new struts?

Thank You,William

No. You will gain wheel gap and your car will be higher since youre gettin bigger rims. Trust me on this one. As far as the factory shocks go...hmm..who knows

i'm kind of confused...

However, I don't understand how you actually "raise" your car when you upgrade from stock 15s on a 60-65 profile tire to a 17" rim with a 45 profile... As the wheel is bigger, the tire is thinner, am I correct? So it still maintains the overall stock diameter. That would mean the car still sits at the same height. It just LOOKS like the wheel gap is bigger, correct me if I am wrong....

About switching back to stock springs, I doubt 9k miles on lowering springs can do so much damage to the stock struts.... I think if they are worn, it certainly wasn't because of the aftermarket springs. It depends how worn the struts are basically. Go ahead and do it man... Hey, you probably switched rims more times then me, lol. I'm on my 3rd aftermarket set, in 1 year ownership of the car, I purchased 4 actually, but never put 1 of them on

To correct myself: it will look higher because of the increased wheel gap. 9000 miles can do a lot of damage on factory shocks. I remember someone said how he got new factory shocks and 20 minutes later they were already ruined. So it is possible

yeah, I agree with sweetsound2001, 9000 miles can do a lot of damage. I think your car should remain at the same height because when you get the 17's, the tires will be 45 series as apose to 55's or whatever you had before.

How steep is your driveway? I don't think you should take your springs off, unless your driveway is really steep, you should be able to get out without scraping. It just takes some careful driving. The 17"s will look kind of funny with the car unlowered. I had that problem when I first got my 17"s with stock springs. My car is a lot lower than your, my front lip sits 4" off the ground, and I get by just fine now that I'm used to it. I can drive through a lot of things people thought impossible, you just have to learn to drive slowly and angle your car right. Maximas have long overhangs which leads to the scraping problem, but if you angle your car correctly over turns, you should be able to clear just about anything.
