What Have You Replaced On Your Maxima So Far?

we all are in the same boat where we end up replacing the new part on our maxima every month or so. so far i have replaced coils ($380), plugs ($60), 02 sensors ($420) , and going to replace the maf soon ($118+$94 for reprogram) i am fed up with all these electrical issues and may sell my max later in future. so if you add up everything that i have spent comes out to be $1072 and am i expecting more electric components to go defective? obviously YES! so is it worth having a car when you always gotta worry about something new going bad? to me NO! what about to you?

OoOps Forgot to mention front and rear brakes $300 Alternator $340 Tires $460 rear struts $300 battery optima $150 so this another $1550+1072= $2622
there must be more things that i cant recall. but i bet that you people have spent more than what i have.

I've only replaced one knock sensor so far, everything else works good. my family bought this maxima brand new and drove it for 10 years.

I had a 02 sensor replaced about 3 weeks after I bought the car. Otherwise thats it.

I had a 94 Altima. CONSTANT electrical problems with everything from the radio to wind sheild wipers cutting out mid wipe to the ingnition sticking.

So far so good on the max. Bear in mind I'm not fuggin with anything on the engine and will likely leave the suspension stock.

I've found that modding your car is more expensive long term than just the cost to get the mod done.

I'm also just going to be dilligent with the basic maintenance, tuneups, oil changes, premi fuel only and hope for the best.

GPS Replacement

I own a 2003 Nissan Maxima which currently has a built in OEM Navigation system. I do a lot of traveling in BC Canada and the version of my Navigation system does not have any map info for Canada (I called the Zenrin, the company which develops the software and they confirm that there is nothing available). I was hoping to replace the current CD based unit with a newer DVD based unit from a 2005 Infinity FX35, which has BC coverage. The part numbers for dvd console is: 25915 CB804 and the part number for the audio visual box is: 28330 5z000I.

Does anyone out there know if the newer unit is compatible with my Maxima?

Thanks for any assisatance.

Gary

So for those who have had to experience a lot of repairs I'm interested in knowing how many mod's and what kind of mods you've put in your car?

That includes everything from lowered suspension to CAI to FI. I just curious because I had a lot of probs on a heavily modded car previously. I noticed that my friends car ( a nissan as well) had no problems so long as he kept up on maintenance.

I guess the main question I have is, how many of these repairs are "self inflicted" as opposed to poor design/quality on Nissan's part.

I think the Sprints helped the CV's go...other than that, Nothing. I had KYB AGX and Sprints, Y pipe, Warpspeed Catback, Intake and wheels...no heavy modding here.

hey man it's a car. If you want a car to be top notch.. you got to repair it keep it maintained. It's the same for any other car.

MAF (went to an 01 MAF)
Security System (NATS Module)
Brakes (Pads, Rotors and Lines)
Shifter Linkage
Pass. Fog Light
Battery
Headunit (Dealership took care of that)

Ugh. Thanks for the sad reminder.

Engine
transmission
suspension
brakes
exhaust
hood (to cf)
headlights (to e36)
taillights (to r33)
stereo

All because I wanted to not all because needed. Transmission was needed, engine was good idea (270,000miles) but all else was out of want not need. When you figure the cost of a new car, rebuilding a car to your desires is cheaper.

Hmmm.. Will have had my car a year on January 9. So here's my list:

MAF: free from dealer
6 coils: free from dealer
Front Rotors Turned: $18 @ Pepboy's
Alternator: about $250 from AutoZone with installation from an independent mechanic
transmission control module (or something similar): about $450, half the actual cost thanks to the 30/30 warranty

If you count the extras:
Platinum Plus Tint: $225
Alpine HU: $275
G35 18's with Michelin Pilot Sports: $700

My next mod will be suspension next summer... After that, I probably won't touch anything.

I personally think maximas take a good beating, i drive mine pritty hard. Most cars would have died on me .

On my 2k GLE I've replaced....

My Max has almost 140K miles on it now in after 6 years. I have beat the hell out of the car and really neglected it in the past 2 years due to my attention on my motorcycle. Now I've been going through it and replacing a lot of parts that are not necessarily needed, but for my own comfort to get the longevity and MPG out of the vehicle.

Probably the three major parts that were absolutely necessary were the 3 failed ignition coil packs, the front pre-cat, and the radiator fan motor. Everything else was either my own doing by beating the hell out of the car or from neglecting normal maintenance schedules. Considering the cost of those parts in total is less than $400 and I did the labor on the installs I think I've faired pretty well with this car.

The rest of the maintenance/replacement I can tack it on as normal maintenance for the car. I can't complain...I've probably spent more on mods over the years than I have on maintenance. It's just part of the passion....

                      so far I've replaced:

Everything in the engine bay... engine, transmission (twice, w/ 2 more rebuilds), steering rack, engine crossmember, radiator, all belt-driven accessories, blah blah blah.

suspension. everything. struts, strut mounts, springs, bushings, control arms, rear suspension links, knuckles, wheel bearings, rear crossmember etc.

                      complete exhaust

seats, soon to replace steering wheel, carpet needs replaced, half the dash trim, center console, shifter and ****, all stereo components, tint, 3 windows so far, sunroof, heater core, dash lights, door lock timer, alarm module, window switches, window regulators...

                      wheels (several sets)

                      front bumper already replaced...
hood, front bumper, trunklid, rear bumper & spoiler once I get around to repainting the car....

that's all I can think of so far... I'm sure there's a bunch more.

The only thing that's come out of my pocket was the rear Valve cover, but I soon figured out that I didn't really need to even replace that..

                      Under warranty:

transmission due to 3rd gear synchro issues
2 o2 sensors at the same time

Plus regular maintenence which I do myself...

                      HU
                      all 4 speakers
All the things changed in a full tune-up (twice)
4 window regulators (first one about 8 years ago - last one almost 3 years ago now - knock on wood!)
                      struts
brake shyte (don't know about rotors and calipers. I think just pads. Does that sound right? I don't drive it hard.)
                      tires of course.
replaced the passenger sideview mirror myself after I ran into the side of the garage backing out one morning. Doh!

That's really all in the first 10 years. The Maxima has been a ROCK.

HOWEVER, in the last 6 months.

                      Full PS rack
                      All 6 injectors
                      New radiator

And unfortunately that's all at a repair $$hop because I have no skillz under the hood. Needless to say, after that investment I am looking to keep this car awhile - that and I love it of course.

Thanks to the org I'll be attempting to replace the shifter bushing myself in the next couple months.

Stuff that needed replacing due to normal maintenance
                      -spark plugs
                      -oil filter
                      -air filter
                      -coolant

Stuff replaced due to wear and tear
                      -passenger side axle
                      -tires
-one set of front/rear brakes (the AP's have lasted the past 2 years)
                      -shift ****

Fairly reliable car with easy maintenance. I have more trouble with paint, i'm on my 2nd sand blasted bumper already

I bought my car in June of 2004, and while I do complain about my car sometimes, it really hasn't been all that bad as far as repairs go.

O2 Sensor (replaced by dealer, had the CEL when I bought it)
                      6 Coilpacks (2 died, did the rest since it's a 99)
                      Starter
                      Sway Bar Endlinks
Battery (OEM wasn't dead, just as a precaution)
                      Air Filter x3
                      Full set of Tires x2
2nd set of Wheels & Tires for winter
                      Spark Plugs x2
                      Fuel Filter x2
                      Front brake pads, rotors
                      Rear brake pads 2x
                      Rear brake calipers and rotors
                      Coolant flush
                      Couple of exhaust hangers

Currently it needs new strut mounts and I need to buy some new wheels/tires for next summer. It's been pretty good to me for the past 61k miles.

                      Stock 2000 GLE 70xxx miles
                      Owned since 58xxx miles

(Under warranty from previous owner is one transmission @ 35k)

Since I have owned it for 1 year

                      Rotors @ 58k
                      Sway bar links @60k
Coils @ 65k (and plugs while I was there)
Shorted wire under seat causing SIR problems @ 63k
                      transmission @ 71k
02 problem appeared @ 70k but was reset, so will need that soon.

Previous vehicle was a 99 Yukon Denali with 175K miles. Owned it for 2 years.
                      Things replaced

Coolant hose quick disconnect that was corroded and began to leak @ 175xxx
(and obviously struts, but drove better than new after replaced-Had to sell because of a Divorce.)

I don't consider pads, tires, battery, etc "faulty items" they are parts that go bad. Only reason I added the rotors is because everyone knows they are to thin (or cheap) coming from the factory.

                      Nada

Excluding fluids, filters, and a set of tires, everything that came with my car when it rolled off the factory floor 4 years and 40k miles ago, is still on there. I'm even still using the original wiper blades. They started streaking recently, but after a car wash, they're suddenly good as new. The OEM tires were still new too, but I wanted a better ride and traction, so the Potenzas are now sitting in my basement. And yes, even the spare tire has Japanese air in it. Regular maintenance according to the manual, plus a bit of luck, I guess. <knock on wood> Just got my Blackstone UOA back, and was shocked to see all wear indicators below normal, considering I use conventional oil and do almost 100% city driving.

Bought my 93 GXE about a year ago with only 98K miles (wow!)
Seemed like a bargain since I've heard that these things last forever...
So far, other than regular maintenance (oil, filters, brake pads & tires)
I have only had to replace the 'speed sensor' which was $80 and a simple DIY project.
The car started shaking last night on the road and I found this site tonight while doing the research on possible causes and solutions. I find out tommorrow whether the wheel bearings and/or ball joints need to be replaced. Wish me luck... Oh, and 'Hi everyone!'

Replaced alternator, idle air control body, ECU. The suspension for this car is pretty harsh too and theres a slight creak when I make a sharp turn slowly. Sounds likes something is wobbling. Maybe struts, ball bearings gettin old. 2001 AE with 51K on it. Go figure.
