best described as a "humming" noise (no its not the SC, i know what that sounds like). this noise gets louder as speed increases and its only from the front driver side wheel. its not the tire, cause i rotated the tires and it is still coming from the front. what could it be? and suggestions guys? its annoying! thanks

A wheel bearing (I assume there are ones on the front, right?)... I have a friend who had a similar problem with a new Eclipse. He went to the dealer and had the wheel bearing replaced under warranty. It was a humming kind of noise that increased with speed and almost sounded like a weird exhaust system. Anyway, definitely sounds like something that rotates (bearing, something in the drive system) -- Go get it checked.

I had that same noise too on my maxima. Same wheel. I noticed that the noise came mostly on humid days, until it became a constant occurance. I took to the dealer and it was the wheel bearing. I think it was like $70 for the bearing and $30 dollars for the seals. The dealer said that it was a common thing on maximas, and mostly pathfinders.

Check the tightness of your lugnuts on that wheel. Seriously.

a cracked wheel bearing on the max might produce humming and or krackling noises

other possibles?

flat spotted tires with give a rythmic hum hum hum

or

un balanced tires?

or

drive shaft is bent? <--- serious.. when i slammed into the curb? the noise was freaky.. no power transfer what so ever tho..

or

CV boot? and or steering knuckle damaged? check for bends or separation of the two fused steering knuckle pieces..

sorry to hear of your probs lynn--

i got humming and buzzin, but thats due to two flat spotted tires, and 4 unbalanced wheels.

%#@!$@!
