OK I am about to install the Short throw shifter that I got months and months ago, since I will be installing my new Y pipe, RT Cat and Catback... My question... What position do I want the ball in for best shifts... I hear that most people like it at 2/3 of the way in one direction, which is that... Also which kind of lubricant do I need for the Shifter install? Lithium? If so what kind... Any other tips b4 install... This if for an SMC by the way.
Thanks,
Del

I installed mine set to the shortest setting. I had to put a sizable dent in the heat shield above the cat, but it worked just fine.
Like Sprint said, the lubricant came with the kit, but I don't remember it being anything special.

OK which way is the shortest?
It is probably really obvious if you look at the thing, but I have not looked at mine in months so it is not apparent in my mind. I bought back when Russ had that huge GD... prolly around the holidays. Crazy...I gotta dig it out of my closet.

I had the hardest time installing my sts (ask sprint... i must have AIM'd him every 20 minutes).... but that was because I couldn't for the life of me get the cat off. Since you're replacing all that you should have no problem. Install the shift ball at the shortest setting, I love it, and that's all the way up the shaft. The other thing is that you're gonna need a hell of a dent in that heat shield if it's all the way short. I couldn't bang it out as much as was needed because I had to slide the heat shield over the cat so I bang on the heat shield a little sometimes but otherwise I love it... Good Luck del.
PS - I couldn't find the lub that came with mine either, turns out it's white bicycle grease that you can pick up at a bike store. Home Depot may have something similar.
