ok i have an idea.. shut me down at will because i know you are an engineering man..

say the ecu is sent 5v's of DC current to the ECU.. would it be possible to fabricate that.. using a 12v positive lead from the battery dropped down to 5v's via resistors? .. i think i been drinking too much..

or if you can figure out the wave pattern from an Osciliscope .. then you could program a device to continously with a 12v source to send the same signal to the ecu over and over.. and then sell the device?

i am out on a limb here.. pull me back ben

OK, are you thinking of a device that sends a false signal to the ECU? If so, this might allow unlimited speed, but the speedo would still give an incorrect reading, it would read whatever the imposter device was telling the ECU.

Basically, I am wondering if the ECU modifies the speed sensor signal before it gets to the speedo.
