Tune-Up Questions
Does anyone know exactly what a Nissan Dealership tune-up consists of, I mean I know they replace the plugs, but is the other crap worth the price ($250, I think). I searched the archives, but nothing turned up. Any help would be appreciated.

Technically a "tnue up" is just ignition work. On the max, new plugs are just about the only ignition work there is. Ask them to itemize exactly what they do...
Let us know too

A Nissan Dealer ignition tune-up consists of the following
or what I do on a Maxima) (a.k.a. minor tune-up)
1.) Replace all six spark plugs.
2.) Check and set new spark plugs to the proper gap.
3.) Check and adjust idle speed using the Consult II scan tool. Most fourth generation and on Maxima need a idle speed adjustment. Ask the service advisor to record the speed before the adjust and after the adjustment. The adjustment must be set under the IAC valve screen...so a dealer scan tool is definately needed.
4.) Check and adjust ignition timing using the Consult II scan tool.
5.) Check and report condition of the air filter.
6.) Test drive vehicle.
The price that was quoted est.$250 may be for scheduled maint. but again double check for the exact details.
The main thing in the ignition tune-up process for newer maximas is the idle speed adjustment. I see alot of Maxima coming in with the idle speed around 400 rpm's. The desired range is about 750 rpm's. Of course what you see on your tachometer day to day may fall around 750 rpm's, but the IAC valve see 400 rpm's in the closed position...i.e. on first start up...and the typical complaint is flooding.

For $250, some other maintenance items should be included.
I would expect:
1) Replace spark plugs
2) Replace air filter
3) Drain and refill coolant
4) Drain and refill ATF (where applicable)
5) Change fuel filter
6) Brake check
7) Rotate tires
Actually, that sort of service will prolly cost $400 at the dealership. My trusty and HONEST mechanic will do the same service for $200.
