tint question, and its not a newb question

Whats up guys/ girls, got a quick question, for you guys who have tint. I got my windows tinted yesterday, and it was colder than a **** out. The guy who tinted my windows told me I had to wait 2 weeks to roll down my windows. Also there were no bubbles in the back window yesterday.............. but this moring forget about it there are alot of buttons, is that normal? should i be worried?

Alsousa,

I tinted mine two weeks ago. Now, we don't get quite as cold as you folks up there. (30 degrees-16 degrees). They told me to not roll mine down for a week. Later that day, I hit a drive through, and guess what, that's right, forgot about not rolling them down.

I had done that three-four times. Nothing wrong with my tint. I also have the tint with lifetime, so if I cheesed my tint, they'll replace it. I did tell them what happened and they said it is merely a suggestion.

When I told a member of our local Maxima group, he said, not to use rear defrost. Had you been told that? They never said a word. He also said, park when possible in the sun, it helps to dry out the glue. They never told me that either.

Let us know how it cures!

I was told the same thing when I had mine tinted. They also had me come back the next day so that could press the tint down a little better.

Al, I believe I had the same exact problem when I had mine done. Believe it or not, the bubbles did go away. I do know however, from doing vinyl, that the adhesive doesn't like cold surfaces. I would like to think they gave the car time to warm up before installing, but maybe not. I would wait it out a few days and see what it does before returning. How big/bad are the bubbles? Also, the rolling windows bit is just because any moisture behind the tint can cause it to peel if the window is rolled down. They just want to make sure it's all dried up before you roll down windows.

Many people in another thread said that they have used the defroster for years with after-market tints and have no problem. The sun produces more heat on the tint than the little metallic strips from the defroster. My 2 cents

Using the rear defroster wont mess the tint up. I had my previous car tinted and asked if it affected the tint and they said no. The bubbles go away within a few days since its still moist from the application of the film. After a week or so of waiting to roll your window down, you can use your windows like normal. Dont sweat it.

When I got mine done, I put masking tape over my switches because I knew I would forget otherwise.

all the bubbles will go away. Mines showed up the 2nd day and i was freaking out but by 5th day it was all good and clean. Even the defroster bubbles were all gone.

i waited 7-10 days, i just blasted the heat and defroster and nothing bad happened this was in the summer tho.

I wasn't saying not to use the defroster ever. I meant during the curing stages. That's what I was told.

you CAN use the defrost while the tint is drying...it may even help it dry out a little. tinters use the defrost to help dry out the tint after application.

if there's an air pocket in the tint (bubble) then you need to go back to the shop and have them take care of it.
if there's a water bubble in the tint film then this will dry out as time pass. the window will also appear spotty while it's drying.

I went through a drive thru ATM later the same day. Luckily it didn't mess up the tint.
