HOOD LINER ???'s
I know this has been talked about but I didnt stick around to hear my answer. Anyways I removed the liner thats under the hood and was wondering if the heat will damage the paint of the hood or anything? is it just there to put out fires or does it protect the hood?
i did the same. i don't think it'd damge the hood cause of the heat. i mean your hood will get hotter by the sun then your engine. i also remember reading a post that said the hood liner was a fire safety thing. if your engine ever caught on fire the plastic pieces that hold the hood liner up melt and the hood liner falls on the fire putting out the fire.
I took mine off and it lowered intake temps by about 15 degrees on a 85 degree day. The liner is there to suppress a fire. If my engine caught on fire, I'd probably just let the car burn. Fixing electrical damage after a fire is nearly impossible to do right. BTW, I've got a fire extinquisher one board and I recommend everyone carry one.

But, as for the hood liner, I'd be careful. My old 90 Camry used to have no hoodliner, and the area directly above its exhaust manifold the clearcoat has all but faded off of the hood. This was from the heat of the manifold. Personally I wouldnt do it.

I agree. I have had on 2 occasions to actually need to use one. The first was on my old 90 Camry which the stereo wire shorted to ground. Even though there was a fuse there, the wire still got melted. The second time was when I was doing a burnout on a mattress in the maxima and it got stuck under the car and I didnt realize it. Then a mile down the road it had caught fire due to the catalytic and there was flames shooting out the underside of my car...
