All you've done is flip the numbers around ("GPC" = 1/(100*MPG)). "GPC" may be easier for you to process, but it's no more meaningful.

My tank reads "E" with 4 gals. left in reserve. So i fill up and clear the mileage. I am consistently getting 240 - 260 miles out of the 16 gals. That is approx. 15-16 mpg. I've heard that the engine still needs to break in. There is 6000 miles on it and I've only had it up to 100 mph. I've been trying to drive to reserve gas, but can't get better mpg. I also think it has something to do with the CVT. You can never just cruise with rpm at or below 1000. When your off the gas the rpms never drop and when you go down or up hill they jump up like a stick shift but it controls the gear ratio itself. If it doesn't get better soom Ican't drive it. Gotta get a busted sentra or something cheap.

I just drove to NY this weekend, I filled up before i left and set the trip odo. On the way down I didnt really stay conservative on gas mileage, with just a couple WOTs and since I was on a curvy road most of the way a lot of slowing down and accelerating. My cousin gave it a spin while I was down there and def used up some gas haha. I was conservative on the way back though. I got an unprecedented 430 Miles on that one tank of gas! I have never before had such great gas mileage and on top of that, My SES light is still on with a O2 sensor code. I'm thinking its from when I cleaned the IM and the put in the Iridium plugs. Thats almost 100 miles more than my average which is still mostly highway miles. I'm wondering how much better it would have been if I was more conservative the whole time. V-power all the way.

My Max didn't like Shell so much. Sunoco was okay. Exxon might have been a little better. BP was the best.

Shell V power

Having tried only "super" octane gas in my max I have found shell to perform the best. BP super, sunoco, marathon, are OK but the shell v power is the only gas I use. I have defineltly noticed a difference in pickup and the car overall runs better with this gas. Shell claims to refine their gas more than the others even though most gas comes from the same refinery facilities...

In my area we have hess, mobil, and sunoco. Which would be the best of the 3 all 93 octane?

Mobil or Sunoco, whichever one gets new tanker shipments more often.

I've been using 87 but I'm convinced to try 91 or so. I'm filling up today so I hope to see the results after a while of 91 use.

Our standard pump fuel is 91 in OZ and most High Octane are between 95 - 98. That aside I usually run on BP 95.

Anyone out there run LPG (butane/propane mix) on there's ?

On the 92 chevron with techron, is about 300 miles a tank sound ok? There is about 30% high miles and the occasional lead foot and also with the AC on about 35% of the time.

To me, that sounds low. I've just started to run 92, but previously when i was running 87, i'd get about 350 to a tank and thats mostly around town

Ummmmm...................... no

Dont do that to a higher-mileage engine. Now, more than ever does your engine need good, clean gas. After 100k + of driving, there will always be buildup of some kind, (less if you do normal, on-time maintenance, and put quality products in) Dont do that to your car, unless you want to start replacing things like injectors, fuel filters, and you can deal with the extreme power-loss due to the ecu retarding timing if you use less than premium (91 I think)

EDIT: Wait, you are talking about a maxima, right? if not, every engine is different, and made to run on different types of gasoline.....

Better mileage with premium??

This is what someone had posted on another forum:

"In my 2003 Maxima I get about 5mpg better on the highway with premium than I do with regular. Even with regular in my Maxima I have never had any knocking problems."

Any similar experiences? This 5MPG+ would be more than the difference between regular and premium.

I'd be interested to see what brands he was using. If he's comparing BP/ Shell/Sunoco/Mobil/Texaco/etc. premium to Joe's Awesome 87 Octane, the brand difference might tell part of the story.

When the knock sensor do detect pinging, ECU sets the timing back and enrich the fuel mixture. Then even the car may drive ok on 87/89 octane, gas mileage may suffer. This would be my guess.

I had been running 89 and may give 91 a try to see if this theory holds up.

yeah that is a little low. you should be running at a minimum 350 per tank at fill up. im at 420-430 between fill ups. my wifes car is at 400 and its an auto. tell me what yourve done to your car and maybe we can figure out how to up that milage.

Hah.

When I had my 5-speed 4th gen, I barely made 300 miles to a fill (13-14 gal) on long highway trips in great weather.

That was on premium gas, too.

I switch between Shell and Lukoil, Lukoil seems to have replace many if not all the Mobil stations here in the Northeast, I may start using Sunoco cause they are in the rest stops along my commute.

I always fill up with Premium 93, car runs strong and smooth and I average 24 mpg on the highway with a 2 hour commute each way, speed goes between 65 and 90mph with a majority of those miles driven at about 75/80, with the Lukoil gas I can see 26-27 mpg, I really need to do a straight 10 tanks on each to see if it's just my driving during the day that is making my mileage fluctuate like that.

I have a heavy foot and the couple time 87 was put in, my gas evaporates:wiggle

I also have a friend and his parents both drive 5.5 gen Maximas, his mom only fills it up with regular, she will not for the life of her use synthetic or premium gas and her engine is slightly louder and she fills up 3 times a week, his Dad only uses Premium and synthetic oil, he fills up once a week and they have the same driving styles, both cars are well kept but the mothers car seems sluggish especially during the summer heat
