Looked at an '03 today....

After missing an '03 Sterling Mist SE for $9900 (99k) last week, the wholesale dealership called and had another '03 SE. Titanium (silver), light grey leather interior, minor curb rashed alloy 17s and 64k. Exterior has light scratches, scuffs and a few chips in the hood.

They're asking $13990 which I think is too much though with 64k I figure they might get close to that price. I cranked it up and no smoke in the exhaust, but the exhaust smelled strong of burnt oil IMO. I noticed that after a few minutes, the smell was more or less gone and only moisture/vapor was present.

I told him I wasn't looking to spend more than $9-10k and he didn't respond so I figured he's prepared to wait till he gets a better offer....

What do you guys think about the price, exhaust smell and overall worth?

A markup of 40% for only 35K miles less? Yikes stay away, thats a city car. Look for something closer in miles to the one you missed so you get a healthy highway engine.

Don't go for that one. Hold out and you'll find another.

Well that makes me feel a little better....it's hard when you find two cars that have the 2 colors you want the most w/the chromed sport wheels but I've waited too long to rush into a decision now....I'm almost paranoid about getting an oil burner...

My '93 Altima (one of the first built in '92) didn't start using any oil till over 200k and that was due to me being negligent when I first bought it....I hate the smell of burning oil....

That was a good point about the higher mileage...I didn't think about that being due to more hwy miles than in city driving...and I'll tell you, Memphis drivers are very aggressive w/their cars....

Thanks so far

That would be truly ironic in view of the potential trouble you might get depending on the engine....and not in my favor, cheapskate that I am

i bought my black/black 2k2 6 speed, leather, heated seats (and others), no nav and no hlsd for $11,500. it had 57k miles on it. i got a pretty good deal, but there was rock chips all over the front, and in a buncha random places around the car. but other than that, the car runs very well.

just make sure you get the engine codes checked out before you buy it. even if i doesn't show an SES or MIL light, check to see that they didn't reset it right before you got in the car.
