Anyone paint their intake manifold? (engine enamel)
I finally remembered to ask about this on the org. I painted my headers (ssautochrome) with that VHT header paint and those things cool off SO QUICK. Its impressive. especially compared to the rest of the exhaust
Well, my intake manifold gets scolding hot, and I was wondering if anyone had tried painting it with that engine enamel or something to help the heat. I was watching horsepower tv and they mentioned something about it a couple weeks ago, how chrome is good for exposed engine parts (reflecting the heat from the sun) but black is best when its under the hood all dark.
Curious to see what yall have to say...I'm going to go ahead and paint mine most likely, probably the lower too...I dont care if there's no bling under the hood

meh i dont want to pay for that stuff. I have a friend who put those on and said it didnt do anything for him. I am not really looking for performance really, i just want to keep it cool, i dont like feeling like its getting so HOT. I already have the paint, so no expense.
I am curious how the paint works though.

With headers it is beneficial to keep the heat inside, with intake manifolds it is the exact opposite, painting them with that vht paint might make it feel cooler to you, but on the inside it would be hotter because less heat is dissipating, so from a performance stand-point please don't do that.

lol. thanks KRPZ, i knew there was something I was missing. I never really found how the paint worked but I see what your saying. Do you think its worth it to paint a Y pipe too? or is that too far down the exhaust stream. I'm getting a new one soon and have another can of paint left over. (cant you tell im trying to find an excuse to paint something)

i'll give u an excuse to paint something, the lower rad support, i painted mine, but u have to clean it first to do this remove the plastic underskirt that protects the lower part of the engine bay from stones and dirt and go nuts...
let me know if u want to see pics, or search for my old thread, i dont remember what it was called though
